“I think this is a dream.” These were the words that came out of the mouth of Bo Bassett. But wouldn’t they? After all, he has finally made it to the Iowa Hawkeyes. But with him finally being closer to the land of giants like Spencer Lee and Bryaden Bohnsack, it is a moment to celebrate. And if things were already good, they got even better for Bassett and Iowa when the mat sensation got some words full of emotion from his once rival.
It is no doubt that Bassett is a masterclass in the making. And on his way to his 112 high school wins, he has faced plenty of strong names. One of them is Nathan Kramer, a sophomore from the Class of 2027, who is proving his grit on the mat for Brookville Raiders Wrestling, competing in the 127 and 133-pound weight classes.
Recently, he took to Instagram to share a heartfelt farewell post featuring a carousel of pictures, capturing both his journey and the lessons he’s learned along the way. The caption read: “All good things must come to an end, but it’s just business as usual. Thank you to all the seniors for the lessons they taught me during my time with them—they will not be forgotten.” A classy tribute, but let’s be real—the action shots stole the show.
One particularly powerful image showed Kramer in a battle against Curwensville’s Javon Bunce during the 127-pound opening round at the District 9 Tournament. The next photos took a lighter turn, featuring him sharing a smile with Bo Bassett, followed by a series of shots alongside teammates and friends—including Kolton Griffin, Gavin Hannah, Big Tony, Easton Belfiore, and Cole Householder.
And if there’s one thing that seems undeniable, it’s that Bo Bassett can befriend just about anyone. Just a few days ago, even his childhood friend had something to say about their bond.
Bo Bassett’s wrestling journey with his best friend
A few weeks ago, Bishop McCort junior Bo Bassett made it official—he’s heading to Iowa. On the same day he announced his commitment, an Iowa-based wrestling media house shared an Instagram post featuring his longtime friend and partner in crime, Owen McMullen. The joy on McMullen’s face said it all—this wasn’t just about Bo’s success, but about a dream they had built together since childhood.
Taking a trip down memory lane, McMullen reflected, “We’ve been best friends since 2nd grade, and now we’re going to be teammates through 16th grade.” The 2022 Ironman Champion’s arrival at Iowa had the freestyle wrestler hyped, as he called it the best blessing he could’ve asked for, adding, “Go Hawks!”
McMullen, one of Iowa’s first prospects for the class of 2026, was already excited about his future with the Hawkeyes, but now, with his best friend by his side, his morale is through the roof. One thing’s for sure—this friendship isn’t just strong; it’s built like a wrestler’s grip in a double-leg takedown: once locked in, there’s no breaking it.
