Boston Bruins’ Depressing Losing Streak Doesn’t Lock down Playoffs Chances

In sports, it is often said not to lose hope till the very end. The fate of the Boston Bruins is no different amid a poor run of form. They are winless in their last seven games and are in the middle of their worst phase of the 2024-25 season. Additionally, they have suffered some heavy losses of late, losing against the Ducks 6-2 and a 7-2 defeat against the Kings. As the Stanley Cup Playoffs race heats up, there is still a glimmer of hope for the team’s fans.

As it stands, the Bruins currently sit in the second-last spot in the Atlantic Division and out of the Playoffs race. However, what makes it interesting is the fact that they are just six points out of a wildcard spot in the playoffs right now, meaning they still have hopes of progressing through, if the form improves in the upcoming games.

The Bruins have won 30 of the 73 games played this season and currently have 69 points in their kitty. They trail the fifth-placed Canadiens by just 6 points, although the Bruins have played a couple of games more. Nonetheless, the Bruins can still turn around their fortunes and make it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs if they end their 7-game losing streak and start winning games.

“We’re both fighting for playoff spots with each other. It’s a huge game to say the least.”

Further, the Bruins would have their task cut out when they face the Red Wings tomorrow. The latter are placed just a spot above the Bruins and are also fighting for the playoff race. Meanwhile, the Bruins have nine games left to turnaround their fortunes and give their fans something to cheer after a disappointing losing streak.

This is the Bruins’ longest losing streak since their 8-game winless run from March 23 to April 8 in the 1999-2000 season. Additionally, it was also the 13th time this season that the team has conceded six or more goals in a game, as one of their experienced stars, David Pastrnak, expressed his disappointment in this regard.

He revealed, “A little bit of disconnection, and that explains the score. We felt disconnection, and every goal was started in the (offensive) zone. You know, we lost the puck or unforced mistakes, and then we are defending. We talked about getting more shots after two periods. We had nine shots against them. Tough, tough game.”

Amid the poor performances of late, the Bruins have also let down their interim coach, Joe Sacco. After their recent disheartening defeat, he issued a depressing statement that summed up the misery piled on them this season.

Joe Sacco ‘frustrated’ amid Boston Bruins’ losing streak

With the Playoffs race heating up with every passing game, the Bruins were hoping for a turnaround when they faced the Ducks in their game earlier this week. However, they made a poor start to the game and were outplayed in every period by a dominant Ducks team. Eventually, they went on to lose 6-2, much to the frustration of their coach Sacco.

During the post-game interview, he said, “It’s a frustrating time right now. When you get down a few goals like we do, you start to try to play catch-up hockey and you open yourself up for more mistakes, and that’s the problem right now.”

As if their winless run wasn’t enough, the Bruins’ fans are also missing their ex-star player, Brad Marchand, who was traded to the Panthers in the recent trade window. With the team in a rebuilding phase, the onus lies on the experienced guys in the team like David Pastrnak to take the Bruins forward and end their losing run. Can they make it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season? Let us know your views in the comments below.
