It’s no secret that Kristaps Porzingis is sick. The former NBA champ missed the second half of Game 1 against the Knicks because of his ailment. But tonight, despite appearing in Game 2, he looked off. His face seemed bereft of color as he managed to log only 14 minutes in the game. All of this left the Celtics fanbase scrambling for answers about what the mystery illness might be. But as it turns out, the Celtics may be in the same boat!
ESPN insider Brian Windhorst was talking about the Knicks-Celtics series on the Hoop Collective Podcast tonight. But he soon pivoted and brought up Kristaps’ illness and how concerned the Boston Celtics were. “I feel sorry for him for being sick because I can’t imagine what it’s like to be sick,” he said, sympathizing with the Latvian star. He then dropped a bomb on us all — even the Boston Celtics didn’t know how to fix what’s wrong with Porzingis despite having access to the best healthcare in the world.
“First off, Boston is a medical city. It’s one of the leading medical cities in the world. I promise you, every good doctor who they could possibly can consult, I’m sure has been brought in on this. They don’t know what it is. Or if they know what it is, they’re not being able to correct it,” revealed Windy. And what a disaster it is if the veteran journalist is right about this!

Despite being home to highly-ranked medical facilities like the Massachusetts General Hospital and the Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, it seems no one in Boston can figure out how to cure Kristaps Porzingis. And it’s not only worrying for the Celtics. No, if this mystery illness persists, it may end up affecting Kristaps’ well-being in the future.
But amid all this confusion, after the game tonight, Kristaps revealed how he’s felt of late. And if you’re among those concerned about him, you won’t like what he said.
Kristaps Porzingis opens up on battle with mystery illness
You see, the nature of this mystery illness eludes even Kristaps himself. A reporter asked him after the game tonight whether this illness was a recurrence of the upper respiratory condition that ruled out Porzingis for eight games earlier this year. “Probably. Probably,” replied the Celtics star.
But he did not doubt the toll this ailment has taken on his body. He went on to elaborate upon it. “Yeah. I’ve had, like, ups and downs, throughout, you know, up until this point. Just now had a big crash now and, my energy, my my everything is hasn’t been, you know, good.” Worrying, right? But he knows that to beat this illness and return to 100%, he’ll need to remain positive.

“I have to, you know, have to look forward and and it will get better from this point on,” said a confident Kristaps. So it seems he’s looking ahead to keep himself composed amid this turmoil. And there’s no doubt that the Celtics feel the same way. Like Windy revealed, they’ve got the best of the best in healthcare working on this issue around the clock. So, sooner or later, they’re bound to come up with something.
We just hope that it all works out in the end for Kristaps. After all, this series and repeating as champions may be important to him. But ultimately, nothing takes precedence over Porzingis’ health and well-being!
