The next wave of young talent is about to hit, and fans will get a sneak peek this spring, with Anthony, Kristian Campbell, and the highly-anticipated Marcelo Mayer all invited to Major League Spring Training!

All three are in the top 12 of the latest overall rankings. Roman Anthony was a second-round pick in 2022, and he’s already making a huge impact. In 2024, the 20-year-old was named team MVP for Double-A Portland, leading the Eastern League in slugging (.489) and OPS (.856). He didn’t stop there, racking up 15 home runs and 38 extra-base hits before getting promoted to Triple-A Worcester. And once the Florida native hit Triple-A, he kept the momentum going—hitting .344/.463/.519 with 16 extra-base hits in just 35 games.
Other players invited to spring training by the Red Sox
It’s official—the top three prospects are getting a real shot at the Opening Day roster! Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell, and Marcelo Mayer are all heading to Spring Training with the Red Sox, ready to show what they’ve got. They’ll be joined by six other hopefuls, including the newly signed utility player Abraham Toro, catchers Nathan Hickey and Mark Kolozsvary, and pitchers Jovani Moran, Brian Van Belle, and Jacob Webb.
That’s 20 non-roster invitees in total, all headed to Fort Myers for big league camp. Kristian Campbell’s rise has been nothing short of impressive. After flying under the radar at the start of 2024, he’s now sweeping up some of the biggest Minor League Baseball awards! He’s come a long way in just a year, and his momentum is undeniable. As for Marcelo Mayer? He’s still one of the top shortstop prospects in all of baseball, and his future is incredibly bright.
Roman Anthony and Campbell are both looking like strong candidates for spots on the Opening Day roster—if they keep performing like they have been, it’s hard to imagine them not getting a shot. Mayer, though, will probably start in Triple-A after a tough year with injuries, but once he’s back to full strength, he’ll be ready to make an impact.
