Broken Promises Hurt Warriors as Steve Kerr Fails to Find Permanent Solution for Draymond Green’s Headaches

The Warriors rose from the ashes to raise hopes of the sky, only to stumble again. Now, each game for the Golden State Warriors is a must-win if they want a smooth ride to the playoffs. They are the 6th seed in a stacked Western Conference just two games behind the Memphis Grizzlies who are 5th. Well, a missed opportunity, as they could have closed that gap on Saturday night at the State Farm Arena against the Atlanta Hawks, but it wasn’t their day. The Warriors fell agonizingly short against the Hawks, 124-115. Despite being short-handed with superstar Stephen Curry out, Steve Kerr’s men should’ve grabbed the win, only if there was more on offer by the biggies.

No one could explain the frustration after the game better than Warriors veteran, Draymond Green. A “terrible loss“, he exclaimed. With 11 games left in the regular season, the team should treat every game as a do-or-die. Getting too comfortable with the wins, the Golden State lacked the spirit against the Hawks. Just a few nights back, the Dubs were in emphatic form against Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Bucks. Despite missing Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green ensured a hard-fought victory at the Chase Center. But this time, it wasn’t just the lack of hustle that cost them the game, it was also a broken promise from Warriors HC Steve Kerr that played a pivotal role in the lackluster defeat. So what bothered him the most?

That day, Green was a beast. He showcased an absolute defensive masterclass against the Greek Freak. The 35-year-old was locked in and finished the night with 10 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 2 steals. Most notably, he contained Giannis to shoot just 5-of-16 from the field and completely disrupted Milwaukee’s offensive fluidity! However, this performance did not come without adversities. During the third quarter of the game, Draymond Green felt he was being “overhelped” something the Warriors star doesn’t prefer.

I’m like “Man I’m having a great defensive game right now and y’all keep over helping.”And I literally said to my guys I said: “Yo y’all keep overhelping but he hasn’t scored on me.” Green revealed in the latest episode of “The Draymond Green Show“. It got to a point when Green just couldn’t take it anymore and that’s when HC Steve Kerr stepped in. “I start getting mad and as timely as Steve-Curry is he’s like, ‘Dre relax keep your head We’ll fix it in the fourth quarter I promise’ And I was ready to lose my calm,” Green said.

Kerr was able to fix the issue on the night, allowing Green to play the way he wanted to without a lot of help. That wasn’t the case against the Hawks on Saturday night. The Warriors defense was nowhere to be found as Atlanta scored freely from the first whistle. So much so, that the Hawks built up a formidable 20-point lead in just the first quarter. It took a while before Kerr’s men could somewhat contain Atlanta, only for them to close the game in the fourth and final quarter.

Evidently, Kerr did not provide Green with a long-lasting solution. And, after this poor defensive display, Green expressed his disappointment and pointed out his team’s poor attitude.

The Warriors entered the State Farm Arena with high confidence after winning back-to-back games without their superstar Stephen Curry. However, they were humbled quickly as the Hawks dropped a 40-point first quarter compared to the Warriors’ 23, building a commendable 20-point lead. An uphill battle from the get-go, the Dubs fell short on the night. And amid the heartbreak, Warriors veteran, Draymond Green blamed the team’s poor attitude for the embarrassing loss.

We just didn’t come out ready to play,” Green emphasized. “We came out like we were just going to win the game. And we got diced up defensively in the first quarter and from that point on, you’re fighting an uphill battle. So everybody’s comfortable and they took it to us. We’ve got to be better. That starts with me. We were terrible defensively. It’s the NBA. Once guys get into a rhythm, it’s hard and they got into a rhythm and had it rolling. It’s tough to stop that, so we got to come out ready to play.” He added. There’s no doubt it was their poor defensive performance that cost the Warriors the game. Even worse, they started their six-game road trip on the wrong foot.

More importantly, Green also mentioned that while other players are to be blamed, he needs to do better. But, they got to take this defeat on the chin and keep moving because every game is important at this crucial stage of the season. Next, the Warriors face the Miami Heat. A do-or-die for the Warriors, but a battle of prestige for Jimmy Butler. Green is aware of what’s at stake against Miami and they aren’t taking the Heat lightly. So, Steve Kerr’s men will have to work hard and come to play right from the tip-off. Excited for the blockbuster matchup?
