Caitlin Clark Still Haunted by Last Year’s Heartbreak as 6x WNBA All-Star Teammate Reveals Locker Room Antics

Ever since DeWanna Bonner teamed up with Caitlin Clark, it’s been easy to assume the two stars were all sunshine and smiles. Bonner, a six-time WNBA All-Star and longtime Connecticut Sun standout, has spoken glowingly about the rookie phenom. The respect is real. “I think she’s a great player. I’m happy to be on her side now instead of guarding her,” Bonner said recently. Sounds heartwarming, right? Well, there’s more to cement that dynamic.

Beneath all that mutual admiration, Bonner also sneaks in a bit of competitive fire. And it came in the form of a perfectly timed, slightly petty jab—one that’s become something of a running joke between the two. “I always throw up a W in her face because we got the W,” Bonner said during a postgame interview, flashing a sly smile. “I do give her trouble.”

That little “W” might sound playful, and it is, but there’s a sting underneath. Because Bonner’s not just talking about any win. She’s talking about the win. The one that ended Clark’s first WNBA playoff run before it even got started.

Just a few months ago, Bonner and her Sun squad sent Clark and the Indiana Fever packing. It was a lopsided loss that served as a reality check for the young star. So now, the 6x All-Star isn’t letting her forget it. A little edge. A little humor. A lot of respect. That’s suggesting good chemistry. Bonner would agree, too.

“But I’m happy to be on the side of the ball with her. She’s such a dynamic player. She makes everybody on our team better,” she added.

That last part? That’s the balance. Bonner might be the one tossing the jabs, but she’s also embracing Clark as a teammate and playmaker. She knows what it’s like to guard her. Now, thankfully, she doesn’t have to.
