The All-Star Game is all about the stars! It’s a once-a-year celebration of MLB’s finest, where the game’s elite face off for bragging rights. Maybe for legacy and maybe now a little experimentation, too. This year, everyone saw something never seen before—a swing-off to decide the winner. It was new, it was bold, and it was different.
From a six-run comeback to Kyle Schwarber’s three-swing firework, the night had no shortage of wow moments. But the swing-off wasn’t the only thing that got people talking.
One of the most memorable sights came with the return of 84-year-old (soon to be 85 – this week!) Hall of Famer Joe Torre to the dugout. He was wearing the uniform he came to be known by.

When New York Yankee skipper Aaron Boone tapped Torre to join his All-Star staff, it felt more like a respectful gesture. It was a nod to the man who built the Yankee dynasty and whose name still commands respect across the league. But as the game unfolded, his presence simply reminded everyone of what the New York Yankees leadership once looked like.
In the eighth inning, Torre casually strolled out to the mound for a pitching change. It is a duty he hasn’t done in years, but he made it look effortless. And for a while, it looked like 1998 again. Torres’s connection to Atlanta only added more to the moment.
The Braves fans remember him not as a man who denied them the two titles in the 90s, for sure. But also as one of their own—a former player and also the manager. The ovation he got at Truist Park was not just nostalgia playing cards but proof of the respect he has earned over the decades. And well, Yankee fans want those golden years again and call for mounting to remove Aaron Boone from his throne.

Frustrated, a user mentioned, “Fire Boone, bring Joe back.” And this sentiment is understandable. During Joe Torre’s 12 years managing the New York Yankees, Torre brought home four World Series trophies and left behind a standard only a few could match. Boone has plenty of chances, but under him, a championship title seems only a dream for Bronx fans. And hence that resentment has started to pour over now.

Another user said, “Hell yeah, the great Joe Torre! Can the Yankees bring him back to manage ASAP?” One can almost sense the need for urgent replacement in the fan’s voice. And this is not new—the want for change. Plus, add in the fact that Boone has now been seen as a manager who has been soft with his players and is infamous. Just recently, Aaron Boone was caught defending Anthony Volpe for his errors. Not just that, but also adding another player’s name to sugarcoat it all. Fans didn’t take it well.
Taking a dig, a fan said, “Make Bobby Witt Jr. a Yankee, please.” And that would not be far-fetched. The All-Star game was full of surprises, but Boone’s swing-off picks left many fans scratching their heads. Fans could not understand how Bobby Witt Jr., fresh off winning the Home Run Derby, wasn’t among the ones chosen. He was ready and simply overlooked. Boone even then defended his decision, but fans are not ready to hear—you had a star and you didn’t use him, and AL lost—simple!
“A manager that’s well respected,” said a fan. And well, not just fans but even the Yanks’ captain respects him as much. Aaron Judge was in awe of Torre as he gave the team a surprise. He was brought in by Boone to speak to the AL team, and Torre had everyone locked in. Judge mentioned, “So it was pretty cool to see him and just to hear him talk. You can hear a pin drop when someone like that speaks. He’s one of the legends of this game. Not just as a player but also as a manager, what he did in this game. Having him around takes me back to the early 2000s, that’s for sure.” And this sentiment is shared by most fans.
Stating the sad fact, one user said, “The last winner was the Yankees manager.” And well, the Yankees last won in 2009. It’s been decades now, and championship rings are nowhere close. Just imagine, the last time they won, they had Derek Jeter in their roster, and that puts things into perspective. Last season, they had Juan Soto and their shot at winning the championship, but even that they missed and, quote, brutally, that is, with LA. So, of course, fans are not taking it easy.
