Cam Skattebo Forced Into Desperate Measure With Final Message to NFL as ASU RB Receives Tough Verdict From OC

Well, Cam Skattebo’s life throws punches from every direction, but he keeps turning setbacks into stepping stones. A golf cart lawsuit? Check. A 4.57 forty-yard dash at Pro Day? That surprised some NFL scouts, revealing more than just brute strength. Comparisons to Marshawn Lynch persist, but now he’s viewed as a potential mid-round steal. Skattebo isn’t backing down; he’s aggressively climbing the draft board, leaving nothing to chance.

It’s weird how a second-round player hits its rock bottom to a third or even fourth-round pick. Well, NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah reveals what he is hearing from the teams and said, “I want him on my team. I think the league might be a little bit lower on him, but how do you call yourself an American and not like Cam Skattebo?” That’s a straight fact. This guy is entering the draft as an MVP of the Peach Bowl, and teams still don’t buy it. But is it really smart to miss out on a player like him? Nope. Why though?

Look, even though NFL teams aren’t trusting Cam Skattebo’s exceptional talent, he knows what he is capable of. And he made sure even the world knows it. As ESPN Originals hits IG, putting Cam’s words in the best way possible with an inspiring caption that reads, “Cam Skattebo has been running through people since high school ,” That’s a fact. Skattebo said, “He once broke over 10 tackles in one run during his state championship game.” No wonder he did the same in CFB.

This guy, in his two-year run with Arizona State University, averaged 5.5 yards per carry on 457 carries for 2,494 rushing yards. And on top of that, he ran for 30 rushing touchdowns, received 4 TD passes, and threw two touchdown of his own. But despite all of it, some doubts are making the headlines. Now, his 5’11 height is also a matter of concern, as some NFL teams value size and power in RBs. But Skattebo knows what he can achieve as he said, “It’s possible no matter how big you are and what size people think you are, that I can be successful because I love football.”

But here’s the kicker, one analyst thinks Cam Skattebo is a perfect fit for the Kansas City Chiefs despite his height concerns. Kareem Hunt capably filled in for Isiah Pacheco, who missed nine games of the 2024 season with a fractured fibula in 2024. But the Chiefs’ running game sputtered. Neither back averaged over 3.7 yards per carry, and with Hunt nearing 30, Kansas City needs to upgrade. “The Chiefs should probably add another playmaker to their backfield rotation,” noted NFL reporter Jacob Camenker.

Enter Cam Skattebo, a college star who powered ASU to the College Football Playoff, rushing for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns. “Skattebo was one of college football’s breakout stars in 2024,” Camenker wrote. At 5’9″, 219 pounds, Skattebo’s exceptional balance means he doesn’t just break tackles; he demoralizes defenses. His tough running style perfectly complements Pacheco’s speed. However, a significant concern awaits him on the sidelines.

Cam Skattebo Pro Future might be in jeopardy

NFL teams often talk a big game of running backs, but ultimately, many still avoid using high draft picks on them. This year’s draft features Ashton Jeanty as the top prospect, but an NFL offensive coordinator told Bruce Feldman of The Athletic that Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo has many similar qualities.

This could lead teams to skip Jeanty early and look for value later. The coordinator praised Skattebo’s “unbelievable contact balance, low to the ground. He’s a lot like Jeanty.” The overlap in traits isn’t a shock—“There’s only so many molds of running backs,” The similarity isn’t surprising—the coordinator notes there are limited archetypes for running backs, but it’s significant that Jeanty and Skattebo are different in one aspect too.

Look, Cam Skattebo’s got the numbers. Only Jeanty surpasses him in national rushing yard rankings. Productions like that usually create a lot of hype. But as the coordinator points out, a serious threat for Skattebo, “I do worry about his ball security. I think he had 10 fumbles (in the past three years), which is really high.” One bad turn after another can lead to a disastrous outcome. “Production is canceled out if you can’t hold on to the football,” the coach warned.

Jeanty could be a first-round pick, while Skattebo might not go until late Day 2 or early Day 3. This isn’t due to a lack of effort or explosiveness, but rather their contrasting styles. Jeanty’s consistency is what makes him the most desirable player in this season’s draft. And let’s be real, he led FBS in rushing yards and TDs last season and was also a Heisman runner-up. And that’s something no one can ignore. But don’t dismiss Cam Skattebo yet.

Teams like the New Orleans Saints might face a risk-reward decision if they wait on a running back. If they miss on Jeanty, or choose to bypass him, Skattebo’s fumbling issues might be a worthwhile trade-off for his value. Fumbling can be corrected, but Skattebo’s impressive contact balance is harder to develop.
