The Boston Celtics had the Cleveland Cavaliers on the ropes early, jumping out to a commanding 22-point lead in the first quarter. But instead of maintaining their dominance, they let their foot off the gas—something Al Horford admitted was a problem.
“There’s naturally a tendency to relax,” Horford said postgame. “Obviously, the other team’s not going to keep playing that bad… We have to try to keep those leads as best we can.”
That lack of killer instinct came back to haunt the Celtics, as Cleveland stormed back for a stunning comeback win. Adding insult to injury, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown’s bold celebrations early in the game—yelling “f*** outta here” while up big—ended up backfiring.
The Celtics had the game in their hands but let it slip away, proving once again that no lead is safe in the NBA.
