Charlie McAvoy Gets Honest About Boston Bruins’ Displeasure Over USA’s 4 Nations Injury Treatment

“If you read their statement today, they make it very clear that they are unhappy with how this all went down,” insider Elliotte Friedman said on Sportsnet over a month ago. The statement in question came from defenseman Charlie McAvoy’s NHL team, the Boston Bruins, who were less than thrilled about how Team USA handled his injury.

What started as an AC joint injury in his right shoulder during the game against Finland on February 13, escalated further after McAvoy performed admirably against Team USA’s win against Canada. Everyone believed that the 27-year-old sat out the clash against Sweden to recuperate. So you can imagine the shock when the news of the defenseman visiting Massachusetts General Hospital came in.

An infection on McAvoy’s right shoulder landed him in the hospital and out of the 4 Nations Face-Off final. Now, over a month after the incident, the Bruins’ defenseman came clean about his team expressing displeasure at that moment in time. “I know what I went through, and I know how I feel about it. But I’m not really sure how other people felt,” Charlie McAvoy told reporters.

The defenseman was so preoccupied with recovery, that he barely paid attention to the buzz. “To be honest… didn’t really give it much thought, you know, when I was the one that was going through it all… I’ll just leave that there. It’s been a lot. It’s tough,” the Bruins veteran added during the locker room interview, eager to change the subject.
