Chicago Sky Accused of “Trolling” Caitlin Clark as Angel Reese & Co. Gets 25-Second Reality Check from National Reporter

The Sky is falling in Chicago. Angel Reese and Co. are yet to win a game outside the couple against the Dallas Wings, which is comfortably the worst team in the league. They were dominated by the Indiana Fever, who were without their best player, Caitlin Clark. A 79-52 loss was their 4th loss by 10 points or more this season.

Amongst all the poor performances on the court, the rivalry between the Fever and Sky is well and truly alive, as Caitlin Clark was seen pretty animated on the bench. She was pretty excited and erupted from the bench when Aliyah Boston muscled past Angel Reese to score a layup, which was seen as some shade towards her archrival. On the other hand, the Chicago Sky also shed out their share of trolling, as pointed out by this national reporter.

Rosalina Lee said on her You Tube Channel, “I also think that the Chicago Sky were also trolling Caitlin Clark a little bit because they spelled her name wrong on the jumbotron at the united center they spelled it with a y instead of an i. I mean, who doesn’t know how to spell Caitlin Clark? If you have anything to do with basketball, there are so many odd, oddly spelled names in the basketball world that everyone you know has to, like, double-check these things.”

The Chicago Sky-Indiana Fever matchup marked the first WNBA game played at the United Center in its 31-year history. Fans wanted to see the teams play and a franchise record 19,496 attended, who saw Caitlin Clark’s name spelled wrong on the jumbotron. You have DeWanna Bonner on the Fever team, whose name is spelled with a capital W. There is Michaela Onyenwere on the Sky squad with a difficult-to-spell name but it was Caitlin Clark whose name was misspelled. Lee further focused on the fact that the Sky are in no position to troll Caitlin Clark, dismissing any on-court rivalry.

She said, “And it’s just kind of like, I mean, what, I don’t know, troll, but I mean i’m not super mad at this; it’s not that big of a deal. I think these teams like to troll each other. I don’t think that they’re not a match; they aren’t an even match anymore so I don’t know if this is still like necessarily a rivalry, like at least an on-court rivalry. There’s definitely a rivalry but I don’t think it plays out in gameplay.”

It’s either a subtle diss towards Clark or unprofessional behavior from the stadium staff. Either way, it’s not a good look for the Sky. Especially as they were humbled in front of their home crowd against their archrival. The Fever cumulatively defeated the Sky by 62 points over the two games.

The Chicago Sky managed just 52 points in their latest outing, marking their lowest scoring total since 2011. In the growing WNBA rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, Clark currently holds a 4-1 advantage, with Reese’s lone win coming by a narrow one-point margin. Even beyond their individual matchup, the Indiana Fever have historically dominated the series, leading the all-time head-to-head 43-29.

While both franchises boast one championship each, the Fever edge out the Sky in overall finals appearances, having reached the championship series three times compared to the Sky’s two. The analyst went on to further break down and critique the Sky’s underwhelming performance this season.

She said, “They’re… they really need to develop their team; they are not fitting well. I mean, they’re just bad all around. They’re like, they’re not shooting well, they’re not defending well, they’re not… there’s nothing that I can say that about the team right now that isn’t that that isn’t very, I guess, positive, especially in this outing. it was a pretty rough night for the Chicago Sky.”

The Sky are struggling in all metrics except rebounds. But rebounds don’t count as points, do they? In the end, the point is to score and defend effectively. They are 11th in the league in points scored while being the second worst team at the other end of the court, conceding 111.1 points per 100 possessions. The injury to Courtney Vandersloot further worsens their situation as one of the only three players on the squad who average above 10 points a game this season.

In their matchup against the Fever, the Sky allowed Indiana to control the tempo and failed to respond with any offensive efficiency, shooting just 32.7% from the field. What was even more surprising was that they couldn’t even do the one thing they have been successful at right. Despite rebounding being one of their relative strengths, the Sky were outrebounded 32 to 30 by a Fever team that currently ranks only eighth in the league in rebounds. Even in the one area where they were expected to have an edge, the Sky came up short, further highlighting the lackluster nature of their overall performance.

Caitlin Clark Gives Emphatic Reaction to Angel Reese’s Travel

Caitlin Clark has been animated whenever she has been on the bench this season. When she missed the first preseason game against the Mystics, she was seen arguing with the referees from the bench. Clark was taking every minute seriously, even in preseason. Since her quad injury, she has expressed admiration for every great play from the Fever.  But this time, it was not a brilliancy from the Fever side but a fault from her archrival, Angel Reese. Reese was in the paint, trying to drive to the basket, but was called for traveling trying to outmuscle Natasha Howard but ended up traveling.

After the foul was called, Caitlin Clark sprang off the Fever bench and emphatically signaled a travel by motioning with her hands. As the camera shifted to her, Clark turned toward the crowd and pointed in the opposite direction, clearly indicating that possession was now Indiana’s after Reese was called for the travel. Her reaction ignited a wave of energy from the bench and fans, capturing the intensity of the moment in the ongoing rivalry.

It was another difficult moment for Angel Reese, adding to a series of frustrating plays in her rookie season. The travel call, followed by Caitlin Clark’s animated reaction from the bench, only made the moment more glaring. Earlier in the season, a widely shared clip showed Reese missing several layups in quick succession, which drew a wave of criticism.

Her struggles with finishing at the rim have continued to attract attention, especially after CBS Sports posted a clip of her making an uncontested layup and labeled it a highlight. Many fans viewed that post as unintentionally emphasizing her inconsistency rather than showcasing a true standout play.

She has struggled making those layups , including this game in which she scored just 4 points while giving 2 assists. She shot just 2-7 from the field, but she did have 12 rebounds. According to the ESPN game log, 4 of Reese’s 7 missed shots were layups, with two of them being blocked by Fever defenders. She is the most blocked player in the league because of her flawed technique. She has more rebounds than points this season and her 32.2% scoring percentage while shooting from within 5ft  ranks among the worst in the league.

It’s clear that Angel Reese is facing a significant slump, and if her struggles continue, the outlook for the Chicago Sky grows even more concerning. With veteran leader Courtney Vandersloot no longer in the picture, the team risks slipping further into decline. Unless there’s a turnaround soon, the Sky could be headed toward an even darker stretch in the near future.
