Conor McGregor‘s $411 million venture-Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) has announced its latest huge signing, and it is one that will surely shake up the combat sports world. But why? Well, that’s because the company has recently signed a contract with the son of a former heavyweight champion—one of Mike Tyson‘s fiercest competitors. A man who, despite his deadly knockout power, never had the opportunity to fight “Iron” Mike in the ring. While his career took an unexpected turn, and he never lived up to his potential, now, decades later, his son is poised to carry on the family legacy. So, who is this mystery man?
That man is Kenzie Morrison, the son of former WBO heavyweight champion Tommy Morrison. Back in the 1990s, ‘Duke’ and Tyson were two of the best heavyweight boxers around and naturally on a collision course. The 6’2″ heavyweight was quick and had a thunderous left hook that, for many, rivalled Tyson’s. But unfortunately, that fight never materialized. Now, it’s his son’s turn to take the spotlight.
Kenzie has signed a multi-fight contract with BKFC. The 34-year-old fighter boasts an astounding 22-1-2 record, including 20 knockouts, proving that power runs in the Morrison family. After defeating Hasim Rahman Jr. and BKFC veteran Sam Shewmaker, Morrison now enters the world of bare-knuckle fighting.
With his move to BKFC, he aims to achieve what his father never could—becoming the undisputed best in his division. Morrison, who is 6’4″, has the same aggressive, explosive fighting style that made his father a fan favorite in the 1990s. BKFC President David Feldman is optimistic about Morrison’s prospects, saying, “I’ve watched his ascent in professional boxing and believe his powerful striking will translate perfectly in our deep heavyweight division.”

Kenzie Morrison is equally excited about his future in the Conor McGregor-led promotion, saying, “The athletes competing in their organization are some of the most talented in combat sports, and I can’t wait to compete.” But while he is excited about the chance to fight in the promotion, it is also his biggest opportunity to rebuild the family name and bring the Morrison legacy full circle. But why is this such a major opportunity for him, and what is his father’s backstory? Let’s find out.
Why Kenzie Morrison will have to reclaim his family legacy
For Kenzie Morrison, joining BKFC is more than just entering a new arena; it’s about reclaiming a legacy. Tommy Morrison, his father, was once one of boxing’s most feared punchers, with a powerful left hook and victories against legends such as George Foreman. He was on the verge of superstardom, with a bout against Mike Tyson on the horizon, but fate had other plans. A positive HIV test in 1996 ended his career, leaving behind a story of unfulfilled potential and what-ifs.
Tommy’s fall from grace was dramatic and equally heartbreaking. Legal issues, substance abuse, and a succession of personal challenges marked his final years, ending in his tragic death in 2013. What could have been a legendary boxing career became a cautionary tale instead. In the end, all he is remembered for is his unfulfilled capabilities and his role as Tommy “The Machine” Gunn in the 1990 film Rocky V, where he starred opposite Sylvester Stallone. As per the reel-life ‘Rocky’ among all those actors who hit him over the Rocky films, Morrisson hit the hardest. He allegedly hit a sandbag so hard that it ripped open and ruined the scene.
Now Kenzie Morrison has the opportunity to change that story. Despite his late start in boxing, his unrelenting knockout power and aggressive attitude have earned him a spot in BKFC’s heavyweight class, where he has the opportunity to make his own mark. But the road to hell is paved by good intentions. So, Morrison will have to make sure that he remains at the top of the game through sheer will and training. What do you think? Will Kenzie Morrison be able to achieve what Tommy Morrison couldn’t? Let us know in the comments.
