With the NFL draft approaching in less than a month, there’s growing chatter about who’s going to pick whom. Obviously, there’s been enough talk about the No.1, No.2, and No.3 picks. But what about No.12? Why haven’t there been any real conversations surrounding it? Is it because the Dallas Cowboys hold the No.12 card? Well, it could be. Considering the Commanders’ rise and the Eagles’ Super Bowl crown, there are no real expectations from the Cowboys. Still, it seems their well-known Cowboys fanatic, Will Zalatoris, has chimed in with his thoughts about the Cowboys’ draft strategy. But, spoiler alert: He wasn’t enthusiastic at all.
Joining the Up & Adams show, Zalatoris was asked, “The Dallas Cowboys, you’re a fan, drafts here, they pick at 12. What should they do?” Now, you might expect Zalatoris to give his take with a bit of enthusiasm, right? I mean, mock drafts are everywhere. So, getting the opportunity to express your feelings on whom you want your franchise to draft should be a proud feeling, right? Umm!! Not for Zalatoris. He was like, “I don’t know what they’re going to do. I don’t think any of us do. I’m going in with low expectations.”
Surely, you can’t blame Zalatoris for painting a bleak picture of the Cowboys’ upcoming season before the first snap is even played. But he did end up expressing his feelings on whom he probably wants the Cowboys to draft. “If we can get an Ashton or, you know, just some guy who’s going to be a big playmaker.” Hmm! Ashton Jeanty, huh, from Boise State. Do the Cowboys really have any chance of drafting Jeanty? Honestly, the chances are pretty low.
All Dallas Cowboys fans probably feel like Will Zalatoris right now… “Hoping this is going to be the year. 28 years later. I’m still waiting.” @heykayadams | @willzalatoris pic.twitter.com/WLGw2eLUJ3

Coming out of Boise State, where Jeanty led FBS from scrimmage and rushing yards last season. He even ended up finishing as a runner-up for the Heisman Trophy behind two-way star Travis Hunter. So, considering Jeanty was already in high demand, the chances of the Cowboys even getting a sniff of him were slim. Now, after his viral Boise State’s Pro Day workout video, Jeanty’s stock is higher than ever. Showing him his monstrous build and insane running capabilities needed to dodge defenders.
The Cowboys getting Jeanty will be nothing short of a miracle if they don’t trade up. And even if they do get Ashton or any other explosive playmaker. It seems Zalatoris is almost on the verge of giving up hope on a 28-year drought.
Will the Super Bowl ever grace the Cowboys again?
See, the Cowboys are the most iconic and storied franchise in NFL history. With a huge fanbase that spreads beyond America, sometimes there’s no competition for the Cowboys’ popularity. But right now, America’s Team has found itself mired in a 28-year drought that doesn’t seem to have an ending to it. And that’s what hurts PGA Tour star golfer Will Zalatoris. “You know, every year we’re going in and trying to hoping it’s going to be the year; 28 years later, I’m still waiting,” Zalatoris shared on the Up & Adams show. Hope is a big thing for the Cowboys. Every year since their last Super Bowl win in 1996, they go into their new season with their heads held high.

But once the season is over. It’s a similar story of the Cowboys failing to retrace their way back to the Super Bowl. Like, ever since the Cowboys won their last Super Bowl title against the Steelers. Their divisional foes have all made history of their own. Yes, the Commanders are yet to break their Super Bowl drought since 1991. But after seeing their last season run to the NFC title game, it looks like the Commanders are a team to beat again.
Even the Giants won two Super Bowls within the same period (2007 and 2011). Then, there were the Eagles. Who won it’s first ever Super Bowl in 2018. Now, have won their second Lombardi in the space of 7 years. So, it is probably difficult for Zalatoris to digest his Cowboys languishing in past glories. While other NFC East teams are growing stronger every year. For now, the Cowboys can do nothing about it but just soak in the misery. Only a Super Bowl will be a fitting answer right now. But will it come back to Dallas soon? Well, that’s up to your hope, like Zalatoris.
