Cowboys Legend Jimmy Johnson Reunites With FOX Colleague as Curt Menefee Announces Changes in NFL Sunday

FOX NFL Sunday has been the happiest place for many NFL legends, and Jay Glazer is without doubt one of ’em. Back in the early 2000s, Glazer was the new guy at the NFL pregame studio show, sharing a dressing room with legends like Jimmy Johnson and Curt Menefee. The man, known for his high-energy reporting, was eager to prove himself. Initially, Johnson, the seasoned coach, was reserved, observing Glazer’s work ethic.

Over time, as Glazer consistently broke major NFL stories, Johnson began to respect his dedication and insider knowledge. Because, of course. The relationship of those two analysts evolved from distant colleagues to mutual respect. Glazer once described their relationship as “family.” And why not? After all, Glazer and Johnson worked at FOX for decades.

But earlier this year, Jimmy announced his retirement from his analyst gig during an appearance on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” after serving the network for three decades. “Folks, one of the biggest honors of my life the last 22 years has been sitting next to Jimmy in our Avocado Room and laughing our butts off with him, laughing til it hurt. I’m going to miss laughing,” Glazer paid tribute to Jimmy on his retirement.

The dynamic duo covered the Super Bowl LIX—marking it their last time working together. Fast forward to now, and Glazer has reunited with Johnson at the Sports Emmy Awards 2025. And get this, the duo had a funny banter where Jimmy kind of roasted his former colleague. On Wednesday, Glazer shared a clip with Jimmy on his IG handle where the NFL legend called him… well, skinny. “You have to get a little bit of weight,” Jimmy said, and Glazer laughed out loud.

“I haven’t seen @jimmyjohnson4616 since the Super Bowl and THESE are the comments I get??!!?” Glazer captioned his post, addressing Jimmy’s concern over his weight. “Hahahahaha We have the best family ever… but you better have thick skin around us hahahahaha.” Classic Jimmy Johnson, right? Absolutely.

The 46th Annual Sports Emmy Awards, which were held on May 20, featured the likes of Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long, Michael Strahan, and Rob Gronkowski, along with Jimmy and Jay. The FOX NFL Sunday was nominated for Outstanding Studio Show—Weekly, but didn’t secure a win in the category.

But safe to say that even after hanging up his cleats as FOX’s analyst, Jimmy Johnson is out there having some quality time with his former colleagues. But now that he’s no longer with FOX, the speculations are emerging: who’s going to replace Jimmy Johnson?

Curt Menefee thinks Rob Gronkowski can replace Jimmy Johnson

You know, working with you guys, it’s the greatest time of my life, right now.” Jimmy Johnson once admitted that after he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And no doubt, it highlights the Fox NFL Sunday crew’s friendship—the reason why it’s been the league’s preeminent pregame show for over three decades. But with Jimmy finally calling it a career after three decades, folks are out there speculating on his replacement.

Well, Curt Menefee believes that the Patriots‘ legend and the legendary TE in the league, Rob Gronkowski, could step in as Fox’s next big star. Why so? Well, over the past few years, Fox knew that Jimmy would soon announce his retirement as he was already splitting time. Sometimes he’d do the show remotely from Florida, or sometimes from the studio. And Gronk was filling in regularly. Yeah, it makes sense.

“So, now, we just gotta transition a little bit,” Menefee said. “So, I think that that helps because, one, the audience is used to Gronk being with us. Two, Gronk is used to being with us. And, three, we’re used to being with Gronk. It’s not like you’re bringing in a brand new face. I don’t think they’ve announced how much he’s going to be working, if it’s gonna be more, the same, or whatever. But I think the transition is going to be smoother because it’s a familiar face, and someone that we’ve all worked together with.”

The Fox hasn’t shed light on Jimmy’s replacement for now. But the way things are shaping up, it’s likely that the Patriots’ legend might replace the legendary analyst. And for all the good reasons. He’s already been around the show for some time now. Plus, he’s the familiar face that folks out there love to watch every Sunday. Plain and simple. We just have to wait for the official announcement now.
