Spending two decades in NASCAR can spell a hectic, rigorous routine. Dale Earnhardt Jr. went through that when he was an active Cup Series driver. Turning up every weekend 36 times a year to execute his best strategies to pick up trophies can be arduous. So Dale Jr. had many stress-relieving valves – ranging from his magnanimous car collection to hosting a podcast. Yet he was not the only one at the receiving end of a busy racing celebrity’s life.
Dale Jr.’s wife Amy Earnhardt has been around him since 2009. They married in 2016, and Amy had to deal with a lot, like convincing her husband to relax after his concussion. That has led to some effective stress-relieving factors for her as well – and Dale Jr. does not judge her for that.
Dale Jr.’s wife reveals her pet peeve
Well, being part of a racing household can inevitably have an impact on you. The Earnhardts have long found peace in just wheeling a race car around a racetrack. Some of that tendency seems to have rubbed off on Amy Earnhardt as well. In 2019, Dale Earnhardt Jr. got his wife a 1966 El Camino, an odd car-truck hybrid model that was made from 1964 through 1987. Instead of relegating the new motorable beauty to Dale Jr.’s garage of vintage cars, the gearhead in Amy fully intended to drive the El Camino. That should give you a hint about Amy’s stress-release valve.
In the couple’s recently released show ‘Bless Your Hardt‘, Dale Earnhardt Jr. sought a clean slate from his wife. He said, “You’re going to tell me something, and I have to accept it.” Then a worrisome look dawned on Amy’s face. She said, “I’m kind of nervous to share it at this point… I don’t think I can share it.” But then Dale Jr. was there to remind her about the origins of the show. Last year, Amy Earnhardt’s guest appearances on Dale Jr. Download enthralled fans, as she let out fascinating stories of her household. “See that’s the one thing I’m worried about with this show – you don’t know when to stop sharing.”
Finally, Amy Earnhardt plucked up the courage to let out a part of her secrets. She said, “So sometimes, I say I’ve got errands to run. And I just get in my car and drive around.” Her lack of willingness to share this was understandable, given that Amy recently chided her daughter Nicole for hijacking her daddy’s iRacing seat.
Listening to her secret, Dale Jr. simply gave out a loud laugh and shared something of his own. His and Amy’s music tastes do not match, so he revealed, “When I take Isla to school, we listen to my music.” Amy was not so upset though. “Well, she doesn’t get out of the car crying when you drop her off at school,” she said.
A lot of people can relate to Amy’s way of releasing stress. But for Dale Earnhardt Jr., it is mostly just talking to his wife.
Evidence of a blooming bond
Despite a long relationship that began in 2009, the Earnhardts have had their differences. Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife Amy sought the help of a relationship counselor for that. However, they do have other ways of warming up to each other. Recently, they admitted that talking about their family life on a podcast is actually “therapeutic.” Dale Jr. went through rough patches in his racing career. For instance, he was not exactly the most outspoken driver in the garage and had difficulties expressing himself. After all, being the son of the Intimidator, seven-time Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt Sr. comes with a lot of pressure.
He said so back in 2022: “I was afraid of any kind of rejection or any kind of negativity. When you go put yourself out there, you risk someone not liking that opinion or someone not agreeing with you or making fun of you.” But this reserved narrative began to change after he met his future wife. Dale Earnhardt Jr. admitted, “Her whole thing was fighting against the introvert that I was and trying to get me to get out and experience things more. The more I got out and experienced things, the more I had shared experiences with people… I had more to say. I had more to tell.”
Evidently, the Earnhardt couple have a lot to inspire people with. From driving cars to relying on each other, both Dale Jr. and Amy have stuck together for a long time.
