On July 6, after losing the third game 5-1, Dave Roberts gave Dodgerland the news they didn’t want to hear. It’s not just one or two players who are injured. There are three players. Enrique Hernandez, Tommy Edman, and Teoscar Hernandez were all injured. This weakened the lineup and made it harder for Roberts to carry out his plans.
He started with Edman’s broken pinky toe. He stressed, “But it’s kind of for his tolerance, so I don’t see an IL situation.” So, according to Roberts, it’s not a worrisome situation for the Boys in Blue.
Next on the list is Hernandez, who has a sore elbow. Roberts said, “has been dealing with this elbow thing for about a month left elbow inside outside of it, so doesn’t affect that defence, but the swing has been compromised.” And one thing we know: pushing could do more harm than good.
Finally, outfielder Teoscar fouled a ball off his left foot. The scans showed nothing wrong, which was a tremendous relief, but the pain was still there. Roberts told the reporters, “He’s going to be sore, so we will see how he kind of comes out after we travel.”
The injuries are not good news. The weekend results against the Astros have just kept everything out in the open. It started with an 18-1 beating on Independence Day. The Dodgers’ IL list is a long one. July hasn’t been a great month for them. It started with Max Muncy, and the urgency behind the closed doors can be heard in trade talks. Can this decision change the narrative?
Dodgers may get Ryan McMahon boost
The Astros’ three-game sweep from July 4 to 6 exposed all the weaknesses. Their lineup was stretched too thin by injuries. As Roberts addressed the team’s recent issues, trade rumors began to intensify. Ryan McMahon, the Rockies’ All-Star third baseman, is rumored to be the target of a big Dodgers trade.
According to ClutchPoints’ Zachary Howell, the Dodgers are offering about $70 million to acquire McMahon. He might help fill the void left by Max Muncy. Muncy is out with a knee bone injury, so L.A.’s third base spot is now a patchwork they can’t ignore.
Howell pointed out, “Los Angeles does not need much from McMahon, but he is a far better option at third than Tommy Edman. Making the most of him in their push for back‑to‑back titles could push them over the top… A deal like this shows faith in Roberts and his roster while giving the Rockies a future ace that can lead them back to relevancy.” Now with Edman’s fitness under increased scrutiny, the urgency has only gotten more intense.
