Be it fulfilling his coaching duties, or accompanying Danielle Collins on her travel days, Mr. Q is everywhere! Danielle Collins’ unending love for her pets is now well-known. She even hails her beloved dog, Quincy as her “baby son.” Just a few weeks ago, Mr. Q, i.e. Quincy was also spotted helping her make wallpaper decisions as well. And, he is now back in Miami. Remember when Collins won the Miami Open title last year, whom she called the MVP? Well, no prizes for guessing there. It was Mr. Q indeed. And this year, after her second-round win against Romania’s Sorana Cirstea, Collins gave a shoutout to her furry friend again.
Last year, Danielle Collins beat Elena Rybakina in the summit clash to lift the Miami Open title and after her triumph, she posted an adorable video clip on her Instagram, where she could be seen having a fun time with Quincy. The caption read, “Just wanted to do a very quick PSA! This year’s Miami Open MVP goes to my very handsome, very sophisticated, smart, loving, charismatic, ball of energy, my favorite son… Mister Q! Quincy, I don’t know what I would do without you. I love you, sir!! .“
Even this year, Collins announced the arrival of Quincy in the most emphatic manner. Just before the start of his campaign in Miami, Tecnifibre shared a video clip on IG where Collins could be heard saying, “Quincy, the MVP of the Miami Open is back for round two this year. He got here, came down with me and he’s ready. He’s ready to showcase all of his skills and he’s famous around the grounds.”
Danimal also spoke about how everyone greeted Quincy on his arrival at the venue. The American labeled her beloved dog as a “Mepo baby“ and went to reveal his usual on-court habits. According to the tennis star, her paw-friend is a “good little coach and a good motivator.”
She also made an interesting revelation about her motivation on the tour these days, “The biggest motivating factor for me to do well as I have to be able to afford is a bougie lifestyle.” And who has that bougie lifestyle? Of course, Mr. Q.
So, when Collins sealed the deal in the Miami Open second round by a 6-4,7-6(3) margin within just 1 hour and 40 minutes against Cirstea, she didn’t waste any time sending a wholesome message to her “good little coach.” As a part of her post-match celebration, she wrote, “Hi Quincy” on the camera lens. Was it the first time she did that though?

Well, even last year when she reached the final of the Charleston Open, Collins signed the camera with the same message. ‘Danimal’ may be running the show on the court, but Quincy is stealing all the spotlight off the court! In 2024, when Collins won the Miami Open, she spoke about her dog’s impact on her Miami Open run. She said, “Yeah, I have never made a final of a tournament having my dog here. That has had a positive impact, for sure. I’m learning that my weeks are better with Mr. Q. He’s my son. Having my son here means a lot. It’s also different.“
Can Quincy yet again motivate Collins to defend her title in this iconic tournament in Miami? Time will tell! But let’s first find out what the American thought about her performance in the second-round match.
Danielle Collins continues her dream run in her home tournament
Danielle Collins’ record in the Miami Open has been very impressive over the years. She reached the SF in 2018 and made it to the QF in 2022 before clinching the title two years later.
After reaching the final last year and landing her first-ever WTA 1000 crown, Collins said, “This feels like a really big accomplishment. I think all of us want to make finals of 1000-level tournaments. These are our biggest tournaments of the year, aside from the Grand Slams. This is just so special. I can’t stress it enough about being in my home state and having my dog here, friends, family. It’s really special. I’ve had a couple of good years here, but this is definitely the most memorable.“
Even this year after securing the victory in her first match, Danimal talked about her love for this tournament. “Super happy to be back on home soil. This is my home tournament and where I play some of my best tennis. I’ve been really excited about coming here again,” the 30-year-old remarked.
Collins also heaped praise on her opponent Sorana Cristea’s incredible fighting spirit and revealed how she had to make some adjustments to seal the victory in this epic battle. She is now on an 8-match winning streak in this tournament! Next up for her is the Swiss qualifier Rebeka Masarova. Collins has never faced her before in her career.
