Deion Sanders has brought a sense of swagger to the sidelines. Aside from having unwavering confidence, outspokenness and a distinctive style to his coaching in Colorado. Sanders has often fed into his overall Coach Prime persona through sporting flashy hats and Prime Time sunglasses. But beyond those accessories, Sanders also maintains an undeniable influence on sneaker culture. His partnership with Nike since 1992 has often been credited with releasing his signature sneakers from time to time. However, the one Nike recently dropped may have just broken all sorts of records, that Sanders couldn’t help but flex on social media.
Just two months ago, Nike Air DT Max ’96 was released to bring back some of the ’90s flair on Sanders’ signature sneakers. Those were first released back in 1996 when Sanders had just arrived in Dallas to play for the America’s Team. It had one of the most aggressive styles, hard to find these days, as a classic claw made it look enticing. To make the collection stand out in the modern market, Nike released it with multiple colorways. Grey/White, White/Grey, Black/Black, Yellow/Black and lots of other combinations were available.
Each of those colorways was also a tribute to the Colorado Buffaloes program, which, like Sanders, has a long-standing partnership with Nike. So, it was about time Nike dropped another banger, making everyone scramble to get a dose of Sanders’ exclusive sneaker collection. Apparently, Nike released Deion’s Air DT Proto’92, which was never made available to the public until Friday. Given the rarity of the masterpiece, fans flocked to Nike to get themselves a pair of Air DT Proto’92.
And just like Sanders later announced on his Instagram, moments after the sale went online, his shoes were sold out in 10 minutes. “They say I Sold out ! They had to be taking about my shoes. Sold out on SNKRS in less than 10 minutes #CoachPrime @nike,” Sanders’ caption read. Well, if you are an avid sneaker collector, then you couldn’t have helped yourself from getting a pair of Prime Time shoes. In the pictures shared by Deion, the sneaker had Nike written on its footstraps.
It also came in six sets, as shared by Deion Sanders Jr. Two were in gold, two were in white, one was in black, and the other one was in red. One even had a confidential tag on it to create more intrigue for fans. Apart from supporting Deion, Nike also went all in to bring Deion’s youngest son, Shedeur Sanders, to the fold.
Nike break CFB hoodoo to sign Shedeur Sanders
“Now it’s a family business.” Nike said on Instagram after announcing their NIL partnership with Shedeur Sanders. Though the full terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, it was the first time in college football history that Nike gave an NIL deal to someone. With that being said, Sanders can now wear any unique Nike apparel or cleats in-game. Of course, he follows in his father’s footsteps, who is massively popular in Nike’s ranks. In the 1990s, Deion’s cleats were called Nike Air Diamond Turfs, inspired by his fame on the gridiron and baseball diamond. As for Shedeur, it was probably the biggest NIL deal he earned last year.
He already boasted partnerships with SMAC Entertainment, Constance Schwartz-Morini, Gatorade and even Mercedes Benz. But none probably had the emotional connection that Shedeur bore through Nike. He, on his 2Legendary podcast, even spoke about how he wants to build on the legacy of his father. “I would want to build on it. I want to build on it. Have like a different version. But I think the concept..It’s more about generational.”
As Sanders looks to match his father’s legacy in the NFL, he would surely like to do it wearing Nikes. Because almost 30 years, it was Deion who wreaked havoc wearing a pair of Nike. Shedeur would also want to do the same in his generation to uphold the value of being a Sanders.
