Deion Sanders has single-handedly lifted a shattered program over the past two years. Now, it’s time to reap the fruits. No, the Buffs are yet a few miles away from winning a Natty. But that didn’t stop Sanders from receiving a hike in his paycheck. As per a new contract extension, Coach Prime is set to earn $10 million in 2025 and 2026, then $11 million in 2027 and 2028 before bagging a high of $12 million in 2029. He has more than doubled his previous remuneration in Boulder. The prize didn’t go unnoticed by his household as Deion Sanders Jr. made a bombshell admission.
After Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders left for the NFL, thoughts of not coaching them anymore momentarily shook Coach Prime. Since his days at Jackson State, Deion has never had to leave his sons alone for once. From guiding them from zero to clapping the loudest in their every accomplishment, the veteran head coach became quite at ease with the idea of being a coach dad.
On top, the growing NFL interest has added to the potential threat of a Colorado walkout. To the chagrin of the Cowboys, who reportedly made a push to get a piece of the Coach Prime, Colorado’s board of regents handed a five-year masterstroke. Leave that subtle agenda on the bean. Take it as a reward for the obvious. Sanders put the program back on the map with a 9-3 record in the past year, after all. But count his kid in it, oh! Not the ones who had directly contributed to it from the gridiron.
Given this massive cash boost in the family, Deion Jr., the eldest of his four, cracked a drawing room joke on X (Twitter), demanding a sweet share of it. “I know my dawg gone show me some love.. he wouldn’t just keep this all for himself,” Bucky affectionately wrote to his pop. Little did he know that the simple dad-son banter could earn him an unbridled backlash over the internet. Now, the kid has fired back in a 5-second clip. “Bro, you still broke. Don’t change much. You still broke, I am still rich.”

Fans go wild in the comments of his previous post, calling him out as a proper model of a nepo kid who does nothing but looks for his father’s hard-earned money. Some even went to the extreme to demean him, along with his brother, Shedeur Sanders, who is aspiring for an NFL leap. Fans asked him to wait until his brother’s pro contract reaches more than Deion’s $54 million figure.
However, the way Bucky dished a savage, you don’t need a DNA test to know he carries the legendary Coach Prime’s genes. It’s similar to Coach Prime’s no-nonsense approach to ridiculous things. But you can’t really blame Jr., either. If you think with logic, the trolls made no sense. Firstly, the Sanders are not shy about pulling each other’s legs on and off the camera. Their relationship redefines the typical father-son dynamic of society. It’s rare, but it’s so eccentrically good. So, it might just be a joke and nothing else. Secondly, the lesser-known Sanders is doing quite well on its own.
Deion Sanders Jr. doesn’t need his father’s name and money
You might not be able to see the eldest Sanders on the camera during the Colorado events a lot. But that doesn’t mean he is not doing his part. Buckey boosted the Buffs franchise, helping them to get more media exposure through his start-up, Well Off Media. He has extensively worked with the social media presence of the program and handled the brand identity pretty well.
The outcome is evident. It has significantly increased Colorado’s national prominence. Coach Prime has acknowledged that Bucky’s effort has changed the program’s health. The Colorado athletes are also very pleased with how Bucky made them feel like a family and always step up whenever any difference arises. So, there’s no debate that he doesn’t need his dad’s money that way. He already has a rousing career of his own.
And most importantly, he doesn’t want the lavishness of the last name, either. “I used to never like telling people my name. I hated that s-t.” Sanders Jr. said when asked what name he would use as an alternative, “I would just say DJ or just junior… hated telling people because it’s like you just want to get that s-t on your own….want you to respect me for me. Or I want to get your number because you think I look good. I want to get this girl to give me her number because you think I look good.” Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how the fans treat him following the fireback.
