Deion Sanders’ Strong Message on Son Shedeur’s NFL Draft Manipulation After QB’s Unexpected ‘Privilege’ Admission

Who could be a more devoted protector than a father? And when that father is Deion Sanders, we have a clear sense of the level of protection involved. From boldly predicting his son Shedeur would “pull an Eli” in the draft, to declaring, “It’s not who I would like for him to play for. It’s a couple of teams that I won’t allow him to play for,” Deion has shown some mad love. The Colorado Buffaloes head coach even installed a full turf field in their backyard, enabling Shedeur to train in the comfort of home. He has stood by Shedeur through every challenge, and reciprocally, Shedeur has been his father’s star quarterback, following him from Jackson State to the Colorado Buffaloes. Their bond is unmistakable.

Now, with the QB’s draft prospects facing scrutiny, the father of five is understandably incensed. Particularly, this stems from criticisms of Shedeur’s off-field shenanigans, rather than his athletic prowess. However, Coach Prime is officially done playing nice. He’s straight-up laying down the law, letting everyone know where he stands because his boy is about to get thrown into the deep end.

Deion Sanders strikes back at Shedeur’s critic

Initially, the focus was on the Shedeur Sanders vs Cam Ward comparison dominating 2025 NFL Draft discussions. But the narrative quickly turned negative. According to an NFL Rookie Watch post, “One anonymous NFL GM reportedly believes there’s ‘red flags’ to Shedeur’s personality between his fiery attitude and the watch flexing.” What added to the fire was Shedeur’s decision to forgo the 2025 NFL Combine, a traditional platform for showcasing talent, which raised doubts about his professionalism and readiness. Consequently, during a pre-draft discussion, Shedeur’s conduct was directly attacked. A quarterbacks coach, whose team holds a top-seven pick, described Sanders as “brash” and “arrogant.” While the criticism briefly subsided, Deion felt compelled to address these concerns in an interview with the NFL Network.

Coach Prime still feels the sting when Shedeur is portrayed negatively. Following the so-called “arrogant” interviews and the skipped Combine, Shedeur’s potential No. 1 pick status has slipped, with many mock drafts placing him at No. 2, and even Mel Kiper’s latest mock draft putting him at No. 3. So, Coach Prime took action, calling out those manipulating Shedeur’s NFL Draft prospects. NFL Network questioned him about reports criticizing Shedeur’s interviews, and Sanders replied flatly, “Now that was a lie.” When asked how he prepared his son for these experiences, he countered, “You mean the lies or the interviews?” Classic Prime. He affirmed Shedeur was built for the interview process, given his life in the spotlight and his college performance. But those lies? That was another matter entirely.

He was adamant they weren’t playing fair. For those who doubt his knowledge of the source, Deion clarified, “We like to call that stuff out, though. I know who it is. You gonna make me call him out? We know what team.” He hinted at having inside information, warning, “Don’t make me pull behind the curtain and step in that thing. I will try my best to keep it on the high road, but I don’t know the address.” His frustration is clear. This is his second response to the issue.

Previously, after Shedeur faced criticism for his conduct, Deion retweeted an NFL analyst Mark Schlereth’s video, where the reporter said, “Show me a quarterback who’s not arrogant…Most of them are arrogant. Most of them have a lot of belief in what they do. He’s incredibly accurate. He really understands not only offensive football, but he understands what you’re doing as a defense.” Plus, there is another factor that makes Shedeur ready for the QB role.

Shedeur Sanders likes all the pressure that comes his way

Throughout his life, the Buffs QB has faced “nepo baby” attacks countless times. Many critics believe he and his brother have had everything handed to them due to being Deion’s sons. However, most ignore the hard work Shedeur has put in. In 2023, he became the player with the most sacks in college football history, enduring 52 sacks! Yet, he bounced back with a successful 2024 season, earning numerous top honors.

He achieved 1st in Colorado’s single-season passing yards (4,134), 1st in Colorado’s single-season completion percentage (74.0%), and more. Clearly, his drive to constantly improve is part of the same demeanor labeled as “arrogant.” So, how is Shedeur handling the pressure? In an NFL Network interview, he was asked, “Whole lot of pressure that comes along with being a Sanders, how have you been able to navigate the pressure and the expectations that come along being a Hall of Famer’s son?”

Shedeur responded, “I like the pressure that comes with everything. I’ll say pressure’s also a privilege…Also I am thankful and truly blessed that I’m in a position a situation that I’m in because I wouldn’t want no other way.” Meanwhile, Shedeur’s on-field habits are also raising concerns among NFL scouts. His tendency to drift backward in the pocket is a significant drawback. Will Shedeur’s athletic flaws be dismissed, or will they compound his conduct concerns?
