The Ravens‘ season finished with a 25-27 divisional game loss against the Bills. But Derrick Henry isn’t slacking. He emerged as one of the best RBs in the league in 2024. With 16 TDs from 1,921 rushing yards in 17 games, he tied Lions’ Jahmyr Gibbs and Bills ‘James Cook for most TDs by a running back in the 2024 season. Even in the rushing yards, he was only behind Eagles’ Saquon Barkley (2,005). The reason behind his immense success is now out in public. No rest, only work!
Just days after getting eliminated, he was back in the gym, sweating it out. He shared an Instagram story training with his trainer, Melwin Sanders. Squatting with kettlebells in different variations, he gave a glimpse of his sturdy legs. That’s why he is almost unstoppable on the gridiron once the ball is in his hands. They look crazy. While Derrick Henry is not resting even after getting eliminated, another NFL player is ruing their missed chances.
Seeing him working out reminded of Tom Brady’s HOF speech when he famously said, “It’s hard when you’re young to wake up in the offseason at 6 am to go train and workout knowing that all your friends are sleeping in and eating pancakes.” However, Derrick Henry is a 9-year veteran. And he knows that without a strong work ethic, success will be far.
For the starters, this isn’t the first time he has adopted this strategy. Even last year, he was back in the gym in February, putting work behind the closed doors, when no one is watching. His trainer also understands this. Sanders, a former NBA pro, has trained many NFLers including Dak Prescott. In 2023, the gym trainer shared a reel showing how the Cowboys QB benefitted from customized cable extension exercises.
Speaking of Cowboys, their linebacker took a mean jibe at the Ravens RB. But in fact, it was a shot at his team.
Micah Parsons’ reality check to locker room through Derrick Henry
Dallas linebacker Micah Parsons appeared on Mad Dog Sports Radio on Wednesday, February 5. While talking to Adam Schein, the Cowboys player said, “We struggled so much, I’m afraid Derrick Henry wouldn’t even have helped us.” That’s painful and hilarious at the same time!
It stemmed from the fact that in free agency last year, Derrick Henry was in Dallas. But the Cowboys didn’t even try to contact him. And the RB later said that he would have loved a phone call to discuss the possibilities. That didn’t happen and the Cowboys finished without playoff qualification with a 7-10 win-loss record.
The linebacker praised how things worked out for the running back who ended up going to the Ravens. It was a great year, but in the end, they also faltered. However, the Ravens duo of RB-QB at the franchise will definitely push back for a Super Bowl in 2025. It would be exciting.
