Dillon Danis and Conor McGregor used to be good friends. Maybe they still are, but a few recent events have seemingly strained their relationship. “At the time, yeah, remember I was upset. I’m not going to throw two bones, but I mean, yeah, I was upset. Maybe I over—not overreacted—but, like, he posted some stuff on his story. The story just kind of felt like, I don’t know, I was upset,” Danis said about McGregor being chummy with his arch rival Logan Paul—who is suing him for millions of dollars—at the Trump inauguration.
The BJJ black belt under Marcelo Garcia, of course, is set to box British YouTuber KSI at the AO Arena in Manchester, England on March 29. And in an interview with Ariel Helwani, ‘El Jefe’ confirmed that McGregor was not going to be in his corner at the KSI fight. Danis, of course, used to feature in McGregor’s corner pretty regularly in the UFC, and was the reason all hell broke loose after Khabib Nurmagomedov beat Conor McGregor at their UFC 229 clash.
In fact, he was the guy Khabib Nurmagomedov, with bloodlust in his eyes, jumped out of the cage to assault after the fight was over. But for his KSI fight, ‘El Jefe’ may go without a corner altogether.
“I’m worried that you don’t have a corner,” Helwani said to Danis on his ‘MMA Hour Show’. For his boxing match against Logan Paul last year, Danis did not have anyone in the corner and got beat up for six rounds. And the Canadian journo fears that Danis will repeat that mistake to similarly disastrous results.

Which prompted ‘El Jefe’ to change the subject and instead offer Helwani to be in his corner. “Well you’re you’re going to [the] boxing [match] you could come. I wouldn’t mind,” Danis said with a smile on his face. But all this talk about McGregor and Danis’ friendship may have made many curious—how did ‘The Notorious’ and Danis become friends in the first place?
How Conor McGregor and Dillon Danis became friends
The year is 2016. Conor McGregor is at the top of the world—the UFC’s newly minted featherweight champion, the Irishman looks like the second coming of Muhammad Ali and seems nigh unstoppable. Alas, Nate Diaz, in the second round of his famous UFC 196 short-notice clash with ‘Mac’ shocks the world and submits ‘Mac’.
Now what? Is this it? Has McGregor finally met his match and hit the ceiling? Well, not quite. Enter then-BJJ phenom Dillon Danis, who sharpened McGregor’s ground game and helped him prepare for the Diaz rematch, where the latter failed to take ‘Mac’ down even once despite seven attempts.
And during those training sessions, ‘Mystic Mac’ and ‘El Jefe’ became friends, and the latter, as we already mentioned, became a regular in the Irishman’s corner and team. However, the Irishman hasn’t returned the favor. Danis hoped McGregor would help him prepare for the Logan Paul fight. But since McGregor had his fourth child, the Irishman was with his partner Dee Devlin at that time.
However, ‘The Notorious’ is not helping the former Bellator fighter this time around, either, for the KSI. Which, combined with the UFC star cozying up to Logan Paul, Danis’ sworn enemy, may indicated that the two friends may be drifting apart.
