The Grand Slam Track is barely a few hours away, and all 96 stars have arrived in Kingston, Jamaica. This includes 56 Paris finalists, one of whom is the Brit speed queen, Dina Asher-Smith. She just had a run at the Texas Relays not even a week ago, yet she’s ready to get back on track this soon. This implies she is coming in firing on all cylinders. But just before she begins her mission, Kingston cracks down; she drops a 4-word message. Wondering what for? Is she sounding a warning for her contemporaries? Or a simple I am here alarm? Well, we’ll tell you.
As is known, Dina Asher-Smith has been a household name since she brought Britain its first female world champion title in a sprint event in Doha in 2019. But for the first slam, she entered not in the short sprint but in the long sprint race group, featuring the 200m and 400m races. This means, well, she’ll have to go up directly against Gabby Thomas and Salwa Eid Naser.
But hey, that’s not what’s bothering her at all now. Instead, she is fascinated by something. Well, that thing is nothing but the National Stadium race track. Yes, Dina Asher-Smith added a story On Instagram on April 3, which featured a snapshot of the colorful new National Stadium track with a 4-word message, “The new track is stunning [emotional emoji].”
As we know, the National Stadium just got a new track laid, officially handed over on March 23. It features colors of the Jamaican national flag, Black, Green and Gold and replaces the blue that was since 2011. So yes, Dina-Asher Smith also just stopped to appreciate the beauty of this US$350,000 track, which was taken up because of deterioration and safety concerns.
But that’s not all. Dina Asher-Smith is truly excited and pumped up for the battle that’s going to go down within hours from now. Because she’s looking at it as something that will prepare her for a larger goal. Speaking to Citius Mag, Dina Asher-Smith said that she was hammering her way with the longer 300m races this indoor season as part of a statistical plan.
Grand Slam Track part of Dina Asher-Smith’s Masterplan?
As it seems, GST will help her with her goal as well. How so?. Well, here’s what she revealed. Well, yes. Dina Asher-Smith said, “Well, I mean, ultimately I was doing those [indoor races] to prepare myself for the world championships in September, as I am with whatever I do here. um, I’m here as a challenger and this is definitely something I’m really excited for but it’s also part of like my longer training plan.”
Dina Asher-Smith then revealed her plans for the rest of the 2025 season. Is she coming back to her core shorter sprint distances soon? Well, yes! She confirmed, “I’m going to ease my way back into the shorter distances as the season goes on so I’m here getting a lot of high-quality background work done, and um, I’m going to get that sure.” Dina seems as classy and confident and usual and fans are stoked for that.
After all, while her end goal might be the World Championships, being the inaugural winner and having 100 grand in cold cash doesn’t sound too bad. But before that, she now has a challenge at hand. She may have gotten the best of Gabby Thomas in the 4x400m women’s invitational relay in Texas recently. But this time, it’s a head-to-head battle. No teamwork. No second chances.
