Disturbing Kyren Lacy Development Leaves LSU Fans Upset

The LSU community is still reeling from the untimely demise of star wide receiver Kyren Lacy. The tragic passing of Lacy not only left a void in LSU football but sent shockwaves throughout the college football world. Deion Sanders addressed his players directly about the importance of mental health. While LSU HC Brian Kelly termed the wide receiver’s death a profound loss for the sport. And while Lacy’s legacy is still intact at LSU, social media is showing its dark side, and LSU fans are outraged and heartbroken once again.

Lacy’s death came amid legal turmoil. The player was accused of causing a fatal accident that resulted in the death of a 78-year-old U.S. Marine veteran. The wider receiver was about to face trial on the charges on April 14th at the grand jury hearing, but before that could happen, it was reported that Lacy had committed suicide after he was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“Our lives have changed forever, and this will never be ok, but God needed my baby more than he was needed here,” Kenny Lacy wrote on Facebook. “This has to be the biggest pill our families have had to swallow, but I know the love and compassion in our families will get us through,” said Kenny Lacy, Kyren Lacy’s father. However, despite their loss, the family continues to hold onto the love that Lacy brought into their lives through his footballing heroics.

The wide receiver was instrumental for LSU last season. He stood second, finishing only by a margin behind Aaron Anderson in receiving yards. Lacy last year received 866 yards and averaged an impressive 14.9 yards per reception. But his legacy was more than his on-field heroics. Garrett Nussmeier even wrote a heartfelt note for him. He expressed how Lacy made people laugh and was the center of attention in the dressing room. But now, in a recent case, the LSU fans are furious.

LSU Nation furious with latest Instagram’s decision on Kyren Lacy

It’s been more than a month since Lacy’s tragic and untimely death, and everyone remembers him fondly. However, a recent incident involving AI has sparked outrage on social media. Just recently, LSU Football’s subreddit shared a screenshot,  Kyren Lacy transformed into an AI-generated avatar, and people could literally chat with it. LSU fans were visibly shocked and horrified. One user wrote.

“I imagine they could do this with any of us, and in the fine print, we’ve given them the rights. That’s what all this AI is about. Making digital clones of us that they’ll put to work, and we won’t see a dime.” While another person put it straight in just two words. “That’s scary“. Well, we all have seen things like these happening in sci-fi movies. Who knew that reality would become so daunting with developments in AI?

To be honest, right now we are just at the dawn of the AI revolution. Things like Avatars of dead people to whom you could talk look pretty dystopian. And guess what? Kyren Lacy’s avatar also had more than 13k messages sent to it, so this means people are interacting with the avatar, and that makes it scarier. One of the users echoes similar sentiments. “Sweet, man-made horrors beyond my comprehension“. While another user commented with a scenario that maybe Lacy did it before his passing. “Is it possible he set this up before he passed? That was a thing.

Even if the wide receiver did it when he was alive, does that still make it okay? Well, no! The repercussions of AI and the world that it will unleash are just starting to unfold. Without proper regulation, the digital resurrection of the deceased could become more common, and potentially more distressing, in the years to come.
