Tyler Shough ain’t even a month old as a New Orleans Saints QB, and he keeps getting good news on his front. After Derek Carr suddenly chose to retire, Shough has been touted as the presumed week 1 starter for the Saints. Though some predicted him to battle for the starting berth with Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler. The former had just been announced to have suffered an injury in practice. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported, “Saints QB Jake Haener, part of a three-way competition to become the team’s starting quarterback, suffered an oblique strain at the end of Wednesday’s practice and now is expected to miss “a couple of weeks”, per league sources.”
However, minutes later, an NFL doctor, Jesse Morse, gave an update on a possible return date for Haener. He said Haener would need at least 8-10 weeks to return to his 100% again. While also sending a warning that trying to return quickly could lead to extended absences.
