Nick Bolton’s special lady is Phanel Ellese. We don’t know how long they have been together, but she has been rooting for the Chiefs linebacker since the beginning of 2024. Nick’s parents, Carlos and Jalunda Bolton, each played their unique role in helping Nick become what he is today. Nick’s father, Carlos, was a linebacker himself in his younger days, playing at Louisiana Tech. He passed on his football knowledge to his son so that Nick could have a head start. Since his childhood, Nick had his father beside him to analyze his game-tapes and learn where to improve.
If Carlos taught Nick the technical side of the game, Nick’s mother, Jalunda, taught him how to handle the psychological side of football. And she taught it by being an example herself. When she was diagnosed with breast cancer, Nick learned at an early age that life doesn’t give a warning before throwing curveballs: “It gives you perspective on everything you do.”
The fact that Jalunda’s cancer arrived on the heels of Nick’s sister, Jazmine’s recovery from a serious ailment, meant Nick had to go through a long period of suffering before his family saw the sunshine. She eventually recovered and became cancer-free in December 2015. She taught Nick what it takes to survive: “Bend; don’t break.”
Nick Bolton will be back on the gridiron on February 9. Patrick Mahomes is important, but what Nick does will also determine if the Chiefs 3-peat or not.
