“Don’t Do It Again”: Theo Von’s 7th Innings Stretch Appearance Hilariously Bombs as Cubs Fans Troll His Singing

The Chicago Cubs handed a mic to a surprise guest for a 7th-inning stretch. What they didn’t know was if they were in for a treat or an attack on their ears. “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” song is an iconic tradition. There’s nothing that can come close to it. But when a legendary comedian gives singing a shot, what do you expect? Not that he was expected to sing like an American Idol, but the way he sang had everybody in the stands cracking up.

During the weekend matchup between the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies, America’s favorite comedian and podcaster, Theo Von, made an appearance at Wrigley Field. Though the Cubs won by 4-0 over the Phillies but the real highlight was when Theo Von, who took over the mic and had his shot at the 7th-innings stretch ritual.

It was shared by Marquee Sports Network on X, and as soon as it aired, fans couldn’t help but share their hilarious feedback. Theo Von reposted his clip and captioned it as: “Tried my best. ”. It looked like he was aware of the incoming trolls.

Did you know this tradition goes back to the late 20th century? Yes, you read it right. It’s now a core tradition at Wringley Field. And you will be amused to know that Hall of Famer Harry Caray is the man who made it a staple for the Cubs. His performance was loved by the entire Cubs’ nation.

After his passing in 1998, the Cubs didn’t let go of this tradition. In fact, they keep inviting celebrities till date to keep his spirit alive. His iconic way was to begin with “Ah one, ah two, ah three..”  Over the span of time, several legends have followed this tradition. Will Ferrell and Mike Ditka also had their moments with this 7 innings stretch ritual.

The Cubs Nation didn’t hold back from judging Theo Von. Although it’s more about the beauty of this ritual than the way he sang. And Cubs fans were aware of it, but they lightheartedly shared their remarks, and it’s going to amuse you.

Cubs fans roast Theo Von for his singing

Wringley Field was buzzing in every corner when Theo Von took over the mic to sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” for the 7th inning stretch ritual. You see, Theo Von already expected lighthearted trolls over his singing. When Marquee Sports Network shared the clip, he clarified that he did his best. Now, the roasts were bound to flood over, it’s not a surprise. Theo Von definitely set the vibe though, he had fans singing along with him from the stands.

Theo Von is a fan favorite for the American audience. He’s a famous comedian and a podcaster. Additionally, he has also been a part of several reality shows. Fans who love him didn’t expect him to sing in the first place, and when he did, he clearly didn’t sing well for obvious reasons. “Look, man, I’m a fan, but that s***ed. Don’t ever ever do it again.” The fan didn’t criticise Theo Von, it was a light-hearted humor. He doesn’t sing for a living, he was just a part of the Cubs’ long-time tradition.

Another fan admired Von’s courage to sing in front of thousands of people: “That took some guts. And it was very…enthusiastic!” It does take some serious efforts and courage to be able to sing in front of thousands as a non-singer. Theo Von did it wholeheartedly and won the hearts. That’s all that really matters.

Cubs’ fans didn’t stop; they judged him anyway. “You are not the next American Idol”  This was a playful shot at his vocal cords. Well, even though he is not an American Idol, he entertained fans in his own way. So, that counts.

One fan admired him but trolled him at the same time: “Great job. Don’t do the national anthem though.” This reaction summed it up pretty well that fans didn’t troll him in a bad way, but just pure playful jabs.

Baseball fans have the best sense of humour, but they exaggerate a bit: “the songbird of our generation!”  Well, he is one of the best in this generation, but definitely not a songbird. So many sarcastic takes were shot at him and well, he didn’t mind it.

Theo Von did his best to entertain the Cubs fans in Cubs fashion. This will be marked as a memorable moment for the rest of the season. What is your take? Share in the comments.
