‘Don’t Really Care’: Scottie Scheffler’s Indifference to Breaking Greg Norman’s 3 Decade-Old Feat Speaks Volumes

“I feel like I’ve lived almost a full lifetime in this one year,” Scottie Scheffler said after having the ideal year in 2024. He won 7 PGA Tour trophies along with the PGA Tour Player of the Year. Well, it was obvious that with such a great performance, he would stay at the top of the OWGR. But with his consecutive performance in the past and surpassing the prominent names of the sport, he is still ignoring the facts.

In fact, Tiger Woods has been the World No.1 for 683 weeks; after him, Greg Norman was placed at second with 96 weeks. But now Scheffler, with his great form, is continuing his career high; he has surpassed Norman with his current streak of 97 weeks. But what surprised the world was his answer to the achievement. Recently, at the Texas Children’s Houston Open pre-tournament press conference, he was asked about his achievement. The question read, “Only Tiger has spent more consecutive weeks at No. 1 than you. Do you allow yourself to enjoy and appreciate the work that you put in to being able to take that or do you just try to put it behind you since you’re still in the moment?”

Answering to which, Scheffler said, “I mean, is it a nice accomplishment? Yes. I think it’s something cool to see from some good starts I’ve had in the last couple years. You know, I definitely put in a lot of work to have that type of achievement.” After becoming World No. 1 in 2022, the golfer has 14 victories under his name, which justifies the work he has put in. However, apart from the work, the rankings aren’t important to him.

As he further added, “Showing up here being No. 1 in the world doesn’t do me any good, it just simply doesn’t. At the end of the day I’m focused on the tournament and the task at hand. The rankings are the rankings, I don’t really care what they are.”

This is a developing story…
