Dustin Johnson Shows True Colors at LIV Golf Event After Accepting ‘Mistakes’ That Led to Masters Crash Out

The Masters was a difficult one to wrap your mind around if you are a Dustin Johnson fan. With a potential cutline of 2 over par, DJ was cruising at an even par scoreline with just two holes left in the second day. An unfortunate bogey complicated things on hole 17, but it would require a rough double bogey for DJ to not play the weekend. Well, that happened, and Johnson missed the second consecutive cut at the Masters. But the 24-time PGA Tour winner is not ready to give up.

He is now back at the course and is sweating it out in Mexico. His aim? Most probably to win! In a recent story posted by his team, the 4 Aces GC, he can be seen hitting golf balls at Club de Golf Chapultepec after everyone else has left the practice. A remarkable message for the young golfers out there as well. “The last one at the range… Cap is absolutely grinding,” the caption read.

This course is a familiar one for the 2016 US Open winner, having won there two times while on the PGA Tour—the 2017 and 2019 World Golf Championships—Mexico Championship. Being back in a familiar setting is going to give a sense of comfort to the 40-year-old, but he knows that he cannot relax. Not yet. There is also cause to grind for Dustin Johnson.

You see, he is coming off his only fourth-missed cut at the Masters Tournament two weeks before. Augusta is a course where he generally enjoyed success, including a magical run at the major where he finished top 10 in 5 straight appearances between 2015 and 2020, including the brilliant victory in 2020. “Just got to clean up the mistakes a little bit. The game is in good form. Just got to limit the mistakes,” the American golfer stated after the unfortunate outing at Augusta.

The loss will sting hard, especially considering how it took place, and now the focus is back on the LIV Circuit, where he is in a drought as well.

Dustin Johnson’s testy 2025 LIV season

The two-time major winner has won thrice on LIV, with his last win coming in February 2024 at LIV Golf Las Vegas. Since then, he has not been at his best on the Saudi-backed circuit. This season, especially, the 4 Aces GC captain has struggled mightily, with only one top 10 finish, the T5 at LIV Golf Singapore.

He is currently 28th in the standings and in the Open Zone. While he is not in any particular danger, the Open Zone does open the possibility of trade if his performances do not match his potential. Johnson will need to set the tone right again at the LIV Golf Mexico event for himself and for his team, who are currently fifth in the team standings.

Do you think Dustin Johnson can recover and send a strong message to the golfing world with a stunning performance at the Club de Golf Chapultepec?
