Eli Manning Gives 2 Reasons for Giants to Draft Travis Hunter as Colorado Star Forced to Take Strong Call Against NFL Dreams

The 100th season for the New York Giants has almost given them 100 things to change before their 101st season comes along. And with the dawn of a new century, it’s almost an open secret about one thing they need to address before fixing something else. Quarterback—that’s the position the Giants will probably prioritize with the 3rd overall pick they have in the pocket. But is there a possibility for them to look elsewhere before drafting or signing a QB? Well, their two-time Super Bowl-winning QB, Eli Manning, feels the Giants can take their chance on a dual-threat college superstar.
Hopping on the USA Today Sports, Eli Manning was asked, “What if the Giants don’t get a QB and draft Travis Hunter instead?” Interesting, right? Going for a wide receiver/cornerback in Travis Hunter without addressing their QB woes would be a bold move for the Giants. But missing out on Hunter would be more of a lost opportunity for the G-Men, as per Eli, “I think, obviously, adding another skill position to go with Nabers. You know, to have that one-two punch on the outside and to, you know, have another explosive guy.
See, Malik Nabers already had an explosive rookie season with the Big Blues. Catching 109 passes for 1,204 yards without having a consistent signal-caller at center just made those numbers more impressive. And with the addition of Hunter to their receiving crops, they can take their offense to the next level. As Eli Manning predicts, “When you put a lot of pressure on the defense where they got to keep changing things up. They can’t just play one coverage and say we’re taking away this guy. This guy’s single offenses are too good to exploit that, so you know you gotta mix things up.” No doubt both of them could be a menace to opposition defenses.
Hunter is also coming off a career-high season with the Buffaloes that saw him catch 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 TDs. And if he somehow manages to rack up those numbers with Nabers, then it is almost game over for the opposition. As for Hunter, he won’t just be bringing offensive plays to the Big Blues. He is just a bit too special to play only on the offense.

Travis Hunter’s dilemma ahead of NFL draft

College football season had already drawn its curtains with players eagerly waiting for the NFL draft. And one player who could find himself being drafted quite early is the Buffaloes’ dual-threat star, Travis Hunter. Like Hunter has almost averaged 113 snaps per game while spilling his contributions both in the offense and defense. On the offensive side of things, Hunter caught more than 90 passes for his 1,258 passing yards and 15 red zone scores. Well, he equally chipped in on the defense with 36 tackles, four interceptions, and a staggering 11 passes defended.

So, where can you possibly fit Hunter by the time he reaches the NFL? Because putting him on the offense would mean not utilizing his defensive prowess. And if you only keep him in the defense, you will probably miss out on a lot of explosive plays. Even Todd McShay, who is an expert on the NFL draft, couldn’t decide upon Hunter’s best position, “Where are we going to play him? That’s the big question. Because I look at him right now based off the tape. And you would think it would be cornerback is his best spot. I actually think he’s better wide receiver right now.”

Well, his head coach, Deion Sanders, has clarified what he wants NFL franchises to do with Hunter. Deion doesn’t want any franchise to draft his player if they don’t want to play him on both offense and defense. “Don’t draft him if you’re not going to give him an opportunity to play both sides of the ball. Because he’s going to be probably your best receiver, and you’re going to look like an idiot with your best receiver sitting on the bench. Or vice versa.”

So, maybe the Giants have already got the message on what they need to do if they pick Hunter out of Colorado. Getting Travis Hunter would be gold, but a QB is also a priority that the Giants cannot overlook. And only time will tell whom they go for by the time this year’s NFL draft comes along.
