Well, looks like Michigan’s cooking up something fierce again. It’s either dropping a whopping $10.5 million bag on Bryce Underwood or snatching top tight end Matt Ludwig from Georgia; Sherrone Moore never disappoints. Now, if you think Moore might walk a tightrope after that sign-stealing scandal that will see him suspended for two games this year, then you are so wrong. He knows his job pretty well, and he’s still wheeling and dealing with it. But how? Moore’s focus lies on the 2027 class, too, and his move to secure this safety proves it. Best part? This 4-star player seems pretty hooked with the program that even his dad’s catching feelings, and that spells nothing but bad news for USC.
Michigan’s 2025 and 2026 classes might look pretty solid, with 24 and 7 commits, respectively, but they are still staring at a blank slate for the 2027 class. But not anymore, as this 6’2, 195 lbs player is already dipping his toes into the program. Hailing from Sierra Canyon, Myles Baker already boasts 16 offers from teams like Georgia, LSU, and USC in the mix, but Sherrone Moore’s offer made a difference. But how? So, Myles took a visit to Ann Arbor during spring practice, and he’s also planning to take another in the fall.
Now, what makes it all the more special is Myles Baker and his father’s emotional connection with the program, as Michigan’s insider, Ethan McDowell, hits X with how content both of them are after their visit. “Getting an offer like that from a dream school is definitely just a different feeling,” Ethan noted. But that’s not something Lincoln Riley would like to hear, who is pushing really hard for him. And the worst part is, despite being from California, Myles’ inclination towards Michigan is surprising.

It looks like Riley is finding it hard to translate his 2026 class success to 2027, as they are still seeking their first commitment, just like Michigan. But their 2026 class is massive, with 26 commits and a national ranking of No. 2. And apart from Myles, they also sent a 2027 offer to QB Peyton Houston a week back. Even Sherrone Moore’s trying to build momentum with their 2027 class, as he is eyeing Kavian Bryant, who’s the No. 1-rated QB in his class and the No. 42-ranked overall recruit.
Sherrone Moore has had enough of mess-ups last season, and he is making sure his future classes don’t follow the same script.
Sherrone Moore’s recruiting engine roars after a shaky run
Following a shaky 8-5 debut season, Sherrone Moore aggressively pursued recruits. Michigan struggled with inconsistent quarterback play and a weak offense, but its bowl victory over Alabama revitalized the program. Now, Moore’s team has flipped the script, climbing from a sluggish start to a full-throttle recruiting push. Top recruits are scheduling official visits to Ann Arbor, and the Wolverines are aiming for a top-five recruiting class. Moore doesn’t want another year like 2024, and he is making sure that happens.
Michigan’s 2026 class currently sits at No. 19 nationally, but analysts expect them to thrive. “Michigan is starting to gain some steam, maybe another top 10 class,” said On3’s Josh Newberg. Adding tight end Matt Ludwig was a major boost. Powerhouse programs like Georgia and Texas A&M were in the mix, too, but Ludwig opted for Sherrone Moore’s team. Then there’s five-star running back Savion Hiter, who remains their top priority. “If Michigan was drafting this 2026 recruiting class… Savion Hiter would be their number one pick,” Wiltfong stated. Best part? Hiter’s going to visit Michigan on June 13.
With that, Michigan isn’t limiting the push to skill positions; the Wolverines are chasing elite names at positions such as edge rusher and OL, too. Five-star edge rusher Carter Meadows includes Michigan in his top four, with Wiltfong noting strong family interest after a spring visit. On the offensive line, Michigan is in contention for Malakai Lee, Le Delaney, and Kelvin Obot, who impressed during a four-day spring visit. “Michigan definitely moved the needle there,” Wiltfong remarked.
Following a subpar passing offense (105th in success rate, 123rd in EPA/dropback), Moore intensified quarterback recruiting, offering 17 scholarships to QBs across future classes. “They want to keep it rolling. They’ve got their sights set on five stars. Blue chippers from coast to coast,” Newberg. However, the wide receiver position remains a concern, with only three-star Jaylen Pile committed. This leaves questions about Michigan’s ability to surround its future signal-callers with top-tier talent. Moore’s aggressive strategy now needs to secure playmakers to complement the quarterbacks he’s targeting.
So, let’s wait and see if they can keep up the same momentum going or not.
