The Warriors march on! With a 13-2 record in the last 15 games, the Dub Nation dreams of being the 4th seed in the West, even 2nd for the most ambitious ones. But the story on Saturday night was personal between Draymond Green and Karl-Anthony Towns. No matter how the Knicks big man tried to downplay the recent controversy stemming from Green’s comments, there was a mini-battle to be won. Looking at the scorecard, one might believe KAT (29 points, though on a losing cause) won the personal duel (Green, 9 points), but the end of the game showed the visage of a beaten, let-down man.
The saga began on March 4, when KAT was ruled out of the Warriors game due to “personal reasons.” Upon learning that, Draymond Green accused KAT on his podcast of ducking Jimmy Butler, a callback to their controversial days in Minnesota. “Some would say he didn’t play because Jimmy was in the building,” Green said on the Draymond Green and Baron Davis Show. “I saw KAT’s pops at the game yesterday. I got incredible love for the OG, his pops is an incredible man. But yeah, they say KAT didn’t play because Jimmy came into town.” And with such personal attacks, it can never go down well no matter from whom it loads.
Later, it was revealed that KAT was attending a close friend’s funeral. His girlfriend, Jordyn Woods, posted “F— Cancer,” on X prior to that, as Towns missing the game made sense later on. Green, guilty? But did KAT’s teammates back the victim?
After Saturday’s 94-97 loss to the Dubs, cameras were immediately on KAT. While the players from the two sides were busy greeting, Towns didn’t stick around and headed straight to the tunnel, leaving failed selfie attempts in his wake. The ABC cameras again shifted on the court and that’s where the big let-down was. Draymond Green was seen hugging and dapping up Knicks players. That was enough to make many Knicks fans sick to their stomach as it painted a picture of anything but comradery between KAT and his teammates.
Everyone is saying the same thing about Karl-Anthony Towns’ post-game reaction
The whole footage from the broadcast went viral soon after the game. Not only the Knicks fans, but many neutrals were also upset with how things unfolded for Karl-Anthony Towns. “This s— got me hot. You stand with your team NO MATTER what,” an X user wrote. PJ Tucker was seen in a warm embrace with Green. The 39-year-old veteran went to wars against the Warriors during his Rockets spell in the late 2010s. The expectations among the Knicks fans were for Tucker to stand on business for KAT, but that didn’t happen, leading to many questioning why Tucker was even signed on a 10-day contract if he wasn’t sent to swing at Green.

Another fan commented, “Maybe I’m immature but too many Knicks players are being buddy buddy with Draymond.” Apart from Tucker, Mikal Bridges was also drawing eyes for his interaction with Green. Being a core member of the Knicks nova crew, expectations were for Bridges to side with KAT. Josh Hart, being a leader of the team, kept that in mind as he was seen having a split-second handshake. Hart also sounded off on Draymond for his comments.
“I think KAT handled it the right way. For me, I have my own podcast and all that stuff. Whenever I’m wrong about something, I’ll sit there and say I was. For me, I wish he kind of did that, just apologized,” Hart said before the game. “You don’t got to be embarrassed or feel like apologizing when you’re wrong isn’t manly. I wish he did. Now that’s in the past and we’re moving on.” Too bad not many of his teammates understood that assignment.
“KAT immediately walked off the court but His teammates want to be buddy buddy with Draymond Green after what He said about Him,” a fan wrote. According to them, “This team is full of p—–s and it’s disappointing.” Green previously apologized for his comments on KAT. “That’s unfortunate, I’m sorry to hear that. That s—s,” Green said after learning about Towns’ loss. “But my comments that I made were, you know, ‘People, what I heard was this.’ That’s what I heard. So I do send my well wishes to him and his family.” This could’ve been seen as a classy response from Green, but the following raises questions about his remorse.
“It’s inevitable, we all experience death in one way or another, and we’ll all experience it in the same way one day. So it’s unfortunate, you never wish that on anybody, but ‘The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis’ must go on,” Green concluded. Highlighting his podcast was probably not the best thing to do in a scenario of grieving. And that’s what upset the majority of the fans.
Some even contested the common sentiment on social media about feeling sorry for Karl-Anthony Towns amid this drama. But even those claims of reading too much into it were squashed. “Yeah I normally don’t read too much into the extra curricular things but I would’ve preferred to see KAT’s teammates not making nice with Draymond after the game,” a fan added. KAT would probably agree to the point of things being blown out of proportion, as his pre-game comments suggested.
“I choose to approach that with love and not hate. That’s all I really care about,” Towns told Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. “I hope no one has to go through what I went through and those kids—and what those kids had to go through. Losing a parent is tough.” Towns’ aggression during the game showed otherwise. The Dominican was fouled out in the first half after multiple clashes with Green. The former even allegedly called him ‘soft’ as courtside mics caught. Following the game, Draymond, however, showered praise on Towns. “It was good to see KAT show up and play like that. He played hard, played well. He was physical. Probably the most physical I’ve ever seen him. Had some extra motivation,” Draymond said in the post-game presser.
But fans didn’t stop there. “I love the competitiveness from KAT. On a pretty meaningless game in March he showed me something. It’s why I campaigned for the Knicks to trade Julius for him, and they thankfully did. Let’s get healthy and see what happens,” someone claimed. Since his trade to NY in the summer, Towns has been a standout for the Knicks alongside the now-injured Jalen Brunson. The 29-year-old dropped 29 points in the loss, taking his PPG to 24.3 for the season. The Knicks would love more of the same from their big man in the captain’s absence.
Ahead of the playoffs, leaving this chapter with Draymond Green behind will do Karl-Anthony Towns a world of good. But as we know of Draymond, this probably won’t be the last of him talking about it.
