Everything Goes Wrong as Jake Paul’s Attempt to Settle Gorilla Fight Debate Sends Internet Into Frenzy

100 men vs. a gorilla. A question that exploded on TikTok in 2022 found new life in April 2025 when it resurfaced on X. It all snowballed after YouTube sensation MrBeast jumped into the mix, posting a tongue-in-cheek tweet asking for 100 male volunteers to take on a gorilla in a hypothetical showdown. The internet being the internet, the challenge quickly spiraled into a full-blown meme, with everyone from fans to fighters joining the conversation. UFC star Conor McGregor even took a jab at it, tweeting, “On behalf of gorillas, I’d s—- a 100 easy.” And now it’s Jake Paul’s turn.

Just a few days ago, Terence Crawford also added his own flavor to the frenzy. The undefeated welterweight champion took to Instagram with a trio of safari photos, casually posing next to a troop of gorillas. “What 100 man? I knocked out a silver back a long time ago and took pictures with his babies. ,” he captioned the post. Ultimately, Teofimo Lopez couldn’t resist taking a jab at Terence Crawford.

Responding to the viral post, he wrote, “@peta, how can they promote such a thing like this jokingly? @DAZNBoxing promoting animal cruelty is not the move. I am in Shambles .” At first glance, it might seem like Lopez is just concerned about the gorillas. But anyone who knows him can tell it’s more likely another sly attempt to poke at the two-division undisputed champion. And now, in the same way, Jake Paul‘s post also stirred up a wave of unexpected reactions across social media.

And seeing the trend make rounds again, Jake Paul couldn’t resist fighting a gorilla himself. After sharing a post about his early business ventures, and how one might have cost him millions, he decided to lighten the mood. A few hours later, Jake Paul dropped a video on Instagram titled Me Vs. Gorilla .” Dressed casually in a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and grey Hoka sneakers, the 28-year-old confidently declared, “It’s time to end the debate,” while a gorilla loomed in the background next to a pile of bananas.

“Be careful,” the cameraman warned as Jake Paul attempted to land a pair of light jabs. But seconds later, the gorilla charged, and Jake Paul took off running. Then came the over-the-top dramatics that made it all the more hilarious. One user even joked, “Literally seen Gorillas rip people apart next he’s gonna fight a newborn baby.”

Though Jake Paul has been criticized since turning pro in 2020 (mostly for picking opponents with limited skills or those past their prime), he’s still finding ways to stay in the spotlight. Now, with a fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. coming up next month at the Honda Center in Anaheim, attention will soon shift back to what he does in the ring. But for now, let’s dive into how Jake Paul’s wild attempt to settle the viral “gorilla fight” debate sent the internet into a frenzy.

Jake Paul came for claps, but got clowned instead

“Come back later when he retires,” one user wrote. This comment seemed to sum up much of the internet’s response to Jake Paul’s win over Mike Tyson, a 30-year age gap separating the two fighters. While Tyson reportedly walked away with $20 million, many fans felt the legendary boxer’s legacy took a hit. On the flip side, Paul’s credibility was also questioned.

The roasting didn’t stop there. One user joked, “Haters will said it’s AI, but in fact it’s a CGI,” mocking the over-the-top gorilla fight video Paul had just posted. Another added, “AI so fake, Jake woulda knocked him out .” It’s a jab at how unrealistic it would be for Jake Paul to fight (let alone beat) a gorilla, when many believe he avoids legit boxing threats. It’s a running joke now: if he won’t fight top-tier talent in the ring, at least he can pretend to fight a silverback for clicks.

Others kept piling on. “Gorilla was clearly scared,” one person quipped, sarcastically taking a dig at Jake Paul’s confidence. The comment alluded to Paul’s past claims that he could take on elite fighters like Canelo Alvarez or even Anthony Joshua, fights that never materialized. According to many, if the 11-1 boxer had stepped in the ring with someone like Joshua, he would’ve been hospitalized before the second round.

Then came the comparisons to Mike Tyson in his prime. “Mike Tyson would have tackled him when he was in his prime ,” one user wrote, echoing a sentiment many boxing purists share. And it’s not far-fetched. Why? Because Tyson himself even joked back in May, before the Fatal Fury exhibition, about how 100 versions of his younger self could dismantle a gorilla.

As if that wasn’t enough, another jab followed: “He’s trynna be Mike Tyson so bad.” Jake Paul’s admiration for Tyson has never been subtle, but for critics, the line between homage and imitation is blurry.

Another sarcastic blow referenced an infamous 2021 moment with Floyd Mayweather: “That’s exactly how it looked when Floyd confronted him.” For those who forgot, that was when Jake Paul stole Mayweather’s white hat and ran in 2021, leading to a chaotic scene that required security intervention. Though Jake Paul later claimed the whole thing was planned, to fans, it was a moment that still lingers in memory.

And finally, someone summed it all up with dry humor. “They gave him some bananas. So he good.” While it may seem like a throwaway line, it’s also a jab at the perception that Jake Paul’s fights are rigged or orchestrated for entertainment. Pay the opponent, run the promo, secure the win. At least that’s what the skeptics believe.

So with all the antics, social media skits, and highly managed matchups, the question is, can Jake Paul ever be taken seriously as a boxer? What do you think?
