Luka Doncic wasn’t the only guy discarded by the Dallas Mavericks this season. Following the Slovenian’s earth-shattering deal to Los Angeles, young shooting guard Quentin Grimes also lived a similar fate. The 24-year-old is now settling into life at Philadelphia and one might say it’s going pretty well. Grimes scored his career-high 44 points last week against the Warriors and followed that up with more solid performances. When asked about his thoughts on his former team, the former Maverick thinks his move was a “blessing in disguise” with everything going on at the franchise.
The new Sixers superstar revealed, “It’s crazy what’s going on, so it’s a blessing in disguise that I got moved… But I feel for them for sure. We had a tight-knit group over there this season. We had a good chance of winning it all…” said Grimes. Well, that’s true, at the start of the season, they were one of the favorites to win it all. However, Dallas has been on a downward spiral ever since the Doncic-Davis trade. Nothing has quite worked out for them. Grimes, on a much more interesting note, also unmasked a major lie that has been thrown around since Doncic’s trade. Mavericks GM, Nico Harrison, has previously reportedly stated that the 26-year-old’s work ethic and weight issues were a major factor in trading him to the Lakers.
Since then, this myth around Doncic has quickly gained traction with several analysts and fans questioning the same. But now, Luka’s former teammate has unmasked Nico Harrison’s narrative against the former Dallas point guard. Grimes dismissed the concerns about Doncic’s work ethic and weight issues. Grimes stated that the Slovenian was in the gym regularly when he showed up for his shooting sessions or practice-day weightlifting. “It’s just a narrative around him. Once a narrative gets thrown out there, everybody just runs with it,” said Grimes. “Whatever they’re saying, if he’s 270 (pounds) and he gets to the finals, let him be 270 then. It’s crazy.”
Grimes is so real for this!

This is quite the revelation! Coming from someone who was part of the organization and has witnessed everything that goes behind the curtains. Especially when this narrative against Luka Doncic was portrayed as the exact reason for trading him in the first place. If what Grimes stated is true then, it’s just poor business from the Mavericks’ end. Speaking of which, one man who would have never let this trade happen is the former majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks — Mark Cuban. He has criticized the move on multiple occasions and recently made an emotional confession about the same.
Mark Cuban makes an emotional family confession weeks after Doncic trade
Well, if you were not aware, Mark Cuban no longer calls the shots at Dallas. However, that doesn’t mean his loyalty and feelings towards his beloved franchise have changed a bit. The 66-year-old billionaire businessman is still a staple at the American Airlines Center and even follows the team closely on road trips. Supporting the Mavs family affair for Cuban, as his children are also die-hard Mavericks fans. So much so, that they too regularly attend games with their dad.

In an interview with the ‘WFAA’ recently, he talked about how the Doncic trade affected him and, more notably, his children. Cuban is a proud dad of three children, two daughters — Alexis and Alyssa, and a son Jake. While speaking with the host about how difficult it is to make teenagers spend time with their parents, the host Jonah Javad asked Cuban, who his son’s favorite player is. “Um, it was Luka Doncic, but now it’s Max Christie.” said Cuban.
Jonah pointed out that’s a hard shift. “That’s cause I told him once you’re a fan, it’s the jersey.” Cuban said while laughing. That just goes to show how much the trade meant to Cuban and his family. If that wasn’t enough, his middle daughter Alyssa’s favorite player, any guesses? Well, it was Quinten Grimes, who’s also no longer a Maverick. Moreover, you can say that Cuban and his children are in the exact position of any other Maverick fan, as they have to watch their favorite players leave out of nowhere. It also makes you wonder if things have turned out differently if Mark Cuban was still at the helm.
