Ex-NFL QB Reveals Major Flaws in Trevor Lawrence After Jaguars QB’s Honest OTA Confession

Trevor Lawrence is hitting a milestone while celebrating his 4th anniversary with his wife, Marissa Mowry. However, his on-the-field performances haven’t been worth a celebration for a long time now. Once pegged as a generational prospect in 2021, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback is now 0-6 in his career vs fellow No. 1 overall pick QBs.

But it’s not like Trevor Lawrence was forever like that. When we look at his previous high school and college stints, as per the reports, the QB never lost a game in high school and went almost undefeated in college. Yes! During his Tigers era, he made a 34-2 record as a starter – the winningest record in program history. So, what’s the issue?

Well, many think Trevor Lawrence is on an arguably bad team, as they don’t have many elite players in the locker room. Yeah, we could say that. But let’s not deny the fact that with time, Lawrence’s skills have also deteriorated. According to former NFLer Chris Simms, last year, Trevor Lawrence “missed five or six throws in that (Houston) game, where they’re just like that’s got to be hit. If you’re the number one pick in the draft and you’re the leader of the franchise, so they’re going to clean that up,” indicating what ex-coach Doug Pederson said about the QB that time.

In addition, Simms threw some more pointers for Trevor Lawrence, which he thinks need to be addressed soon. After analyzing a few tapes of his play from the last season, ex-QB said,On top of the footwork with that, first thing he does – hops in place way too much. He’ll just hop in place. Liam Coen’s going to teach him to push up into the pocket a little bit, get your power going towards your target. So he’s kind of a hopper in place, and then he throws it. You don’t see Joe Montana do that a whole lot, or some other great quarterbacks. They push up in the pocket. They get the body going.”

Trevor Lawrence has a bad habit – his footwork holds him back. As per Simms, established quarterbacks step up into the pocket, shift their weight towards the target, and let it rip. But in the case of the 25-year-old, he doesn’t always do that. He’ll often throw while stepping in the wrong direction – what they call “stepping in the bucket.” That messes with accuracy and leads to off-target throws. Well, the stats reveal it to be true as the QB has just completed 63.3 percent of passes in his career.

Now it’s not that Trevor Lawrence isn’t a talented QB. He is. But if he tightens up that footwork and gets his body lined up with his throws, he’s gonna level up fast. And it seems the quarterback is trying to fix his issues this offseason.

Trevor Lawrence claims he would be perfect by the 2025 season!

Trevor Lawrence knows what’s on the line this year. 2025 isn’t just another season. It’s a turning point for him. A chance to hit reset and prove he’s the QB Jacksonville‘s been banking on. But before he can dive into Liam Coen’s new playbook, there’s some healing to do.

Trevor Lawrence is coming off shoulder surgery. Not the throwing arm, but still, a big deal. So, what’s the plan? Well, it’s take it slow. He’s already tossing the football around, just keeping it light for now. Working his way back, smart and steady. Ah, and no rushing. But what makes it tougher?

Trevor Lawrence is also learning a new system. And Coen’s system lives and dies by footwork – timing, rhythm, and precision. And the QB has been real about it. He knows his footwork hasn’t always been clean. There are habits he’s trying to unlearn. During a presser, he said, “There are some things I’ve known about my footwork over the years of playing that I felt like have been a little bit of a weakness…..And it takes some work. Flipping my stance, just some little things like that that are small that many people wouldn’t notice, but I have so many banked reps of the other way, I’ve got to just get all of these on my own and work them so once camp comes around I’m ready to go.”

So, all in all, Trevor Lawrence is putting the pieces together – the arm, the feet, and the timing. Because once camp rolls in, there won’t be time for catch-up. And this Knoxville native knows it!
