Fever Fans in Awe of Sophie Cunningham’s Red-Hot 3-Point Shooting vs Aces

We’ve known Sophie Cunningham as Caitlin Clark’s guardian angel – and yes, also for her TikToks, one of which recently cost her a $500 fine despite racking up 1.3 million views. In the now-viral clip, she was lip-syncing to lyrics that said, “Stupid. Or is it, slow? Or maybe, useless?” with the caption “@ some refs.” And honestly, can you blame her? The calls for consistent officiating have been ignored for far too long. But fine or not, Sophie just reminded everyone she’s unstoppable, and what better way to prove it than by making noise on the court and getting the fans buzzing?

So, when Sophie stepped into Gainbridge Fieldhouse to take on the two-time WNBA champions, “she was firing on all cylinders,” and it didn’t take long to show. The former Missouri women’s basketball star and Columbia local scored in double digits for the sixth straight game, helping the Indiana Fever defeat Becky Hammon’s Aces in an 80–70 win in Indianapolis. All thanks to her standout performance, wherein she dropped 15 points in her third consecutive double-digit game since the All-Star break, all without star point guard Caitlin Clark. But don’t let the box score fool you, because the way she did it was just chef’s kiss.

She lit it up from beyond the arc, going 3-for-4 from three-point range, as part of a 4-for-5 shooting night from the field. She also nailed all four of her free-throw attempts as the Fever came from behind in the second half to knock off the Aces. And just like that, Sophie has shot 58.1% (18/31) from three in her last six games, including tonight.

Impressive, right? While it’s only been a few games since she was moved into the starting role, Cunningham is having her best scoring stretch since being traded to Indiana. In fact, she hasn’t scored fewer than 11 points since July 9. That’s quite the leap for someone averaging 7.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 0.9 steals per game—and fans have definitely taken notice.

Sophie Cunningham’s fan following keeps increasing

As the Fever snapped a two-game losing streak with the win, moving to 13–12 on the season and into sixth place in the WNBA standings—eight games behind the league-leading Minnesota Lynx—fans flooded the comments. And while the entire Fever squad deserved their flowers, the spotlight was clear.

What else did you expect? “Sophie Cunningham stats,” penned one fan. And honestly, do we even need to explain why? The Missouri Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 inductee is proving she’s more than worth it. As Sophie herself said postgame, “That was a fun one.” After all, she’s learned from the best—11-time All-Star, six-time Olympic gold medalist, and 20-season WNBA icon Diana Taurasi.

One fan added, “Sophia is great on the court for other reasons too. Steals, blocks, etc. She makes a difference—as does Hull. Like them together on court.” And it’s true too. Sophie averages 0.9 blocks and 0.1 steals, and her presence alongside Lexie Hull truly enhances the team. Together, the duo puts up 14.9 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game for Indiana. If you think we’re exaggerating their bond, just look at what the Fever wrote in a recent Instagram post: “Sophie Cunningham nails the triple and Lexie Hull picks up a steal & knocks down a triple of her own in transition.” And they even posted a video showcasing just how seamless the pair is on court.

But, is it just limited to on court? a big no as they look like twins, often coordinating fits and confusing fans in the process! One fan hilariously wrote, “I hate to admit it but she’s the reason we not the worst team in ball without CC lmao.” And if you think that’s just one instance—today’s game was full of highlights. From Hull dishing it out to Sophie for a smooth three, to Sydney Colson finding Cunningham for a reverse layup, Sophie was absolutely unstoppable. Though, Sophie wasn’t the only highlight of the night.

“I mean Sophie looks great in anything, but that uni is ” penned another fan. The Stranger Things Rebel Edition uniform reimagines the Fever’s classic look with a moody, retro palette—black and red hues, vintage Stranger Things font, Demogorgon claw motifs, and a waistband featuring “011” as a nod to Eleven from the hit series. As Fever GM shared: “This jersey represents the fierce spirit of our team and the fearless energy of Stranger Things—two forces that never back down.” And this is how Indiana got the second Netflix collaboration, the first debuting in 2021, and it ties into the upcoming final season of Stranger Things, which is set in fictional Hawkins, Indiana.

“More importantly, I really REALLY like the uniform now…” another fan chimed in. And understandably so—the jerseys made their on-court debut on July 24 at home against the Las Vegas Aces. So, fans were seeing them live for the very first time. But it’s not just the fans who love it. Even the players are vibing with the look. As Sophie said in a postgame candid, “My gosh. And these jerseys are swaggy!” So yeah, it’s Sophie Cunningham—thriving in a new role, lighting it up from deep, and looking swaggy while doing it.
