‘First Time in My Career…’: Phil Mickelson Opens Up as Wife Amy Helps With Never-Before-Seen Masters Prep

Ask Phil Mickelson how he feels about the Masters Tournament this year, and he will give you a big thumbs up. He feels positive, and why shouldn’t he? Having claimed three wins at Augusta National, Mickelson is going strong in the 2025 season. He started moderately at Riyadh (T23) but then showcased his skills in Hong Kong (3).

That impressive finish boosted his confidence, prompting him to say on the Phil Mickelson and team channel, “So, my goal is to win a LIV event. My goal is to win another major, um, I can feel it is within reach.” And we don’t doubt it.

And Phil Mickelson doubts himself even less. Having finished 6th in the recently concluded LIV Golf event in Miami, Mickelson shared an update about the recent wardrobe addition for the Augusta National. It’s an exclusive clothes set designed for Primo for the 3x Masters champion with the help of Mickelson’s wife, Amy. Talking about the same, he captioned the post: “My friends at Primo really went all out on this Masters collection. Can’t wait to rock them this week!”

So, let’s see what Phil Mickelson shared with us. In the video, Mickelson is seen saying, “All right, here at Augusta, for the first time in my career, a clothing manufacturer helped design a week’s worth of clothes for the Masters to make me look really good and Amy really helped with it and so they sent me this box. This awesome box. I didn’t design this. Amy and Primo did.” The exclusive set includes polar shirts and joggers. But even more interesting is that one shirt that consists of “mini-mes” of Mickelson, aka little figures in the golfing position.

Interestingly, Mickelson’s relationship with Primo is months old now. It all started in January when his LIV Golf team, HyFlyers, landed an apparel deal with Golf apparel brand Primo. The brand also became the franchise’s first official golf apparel sponsor! Since then, all four members of the team–Phil Mickelson, Brendan Steele, Cameron Tringale, and Andy Ogletree–have been seen wearing the brand’s items. These include joggers, traditional pants, polos, quarter zips, and vests. Undoubtedly, we will be looking ahead to Mickelson wearing his exclusive gear as he gears up for “any win” in his career.

Phil Mickelson is looking to secure “any win” in the 2025 season

“Any win is a huge accomplishment right now,” Mickelson replied during a press conference in Miami. So, how did this answer come about? Well, Mickelson faced a question: if he had to choose between winning a LIV Golf event and the Masters Tournament, which would he choose? Phil Mickelson decided not to take the bait. He replied, “I think winning any tournament at this stage would be a really strong achievement.” Interestingly, he answered that he faces strong players both in LIV events and during the majors. At this point, winning anywhere will be a major accomplishment. Humble much?

Having won three Masters in his career and looking for a fourth win this season, Mickelson’s form may give younger golfers a headache. How? Well, for instance, there are a couple of things that give him a solid edge. “Lefty” is the only golfer in the field with three Masters victories. Additionally, he tied for second with Brooks Koepka at 8 under just two years ago at age 52, setting the record for the lowest round (7-under 65) and the highest finish by a player 50 or older. He finished tied for 43rd last year.

Besides that, we have his game statistics. Let’s look at two. Putting has emerged as a surprising strength for Phil Mickelson this season. His average? +0.74 strokes gained on the greens over his last three LIV starts. Additionally, his ball striking has been impressive. On average, +0.632 in strokes gained on approach and +0.502 off the tee across four total starts. Besides that, even if Mickelson is humble, a win at the Masters would tie him with Arnold Palmer for the third most green jackets. They will be behind the GOAT and the Golden Bear. So, even if he acknowledges his opponents, Mickelson can make another record this year.
