Flau’jae Johnson may have had her bag full with the NCAA title and all the First Team honors, but that did not mean she was ready for the WNBA draft just yet. “I definitely want to win, but I want to make sure I’m being developed to be the player that I want to be in the WNBA,” she told First Office Sports. While her basketball future seems certain for now, Flau’jae might just be cooking up some big off-court moves this offseason too!
Before we get into that, Flau’jae has been in the news for all the wrong reasons this past week. Her recent interview with Shannon Sharpe stirred up controversy after a clip was taken out of context. The backlash was enough for Flau’jae to speak out, saying, “Yeah that was messy, I’m not doing any more interviews.” What was the interview about?
It all started when Shannon Sharpe asked Flau’jae about Aces star A’ja Wilson’s claim that she could take on an NBA player. Flau’jae responded honestly, saying, “It’s not physically possible,” which prompted Sharpe to burst into laughter. She added, “You know what I’m saying? I can barely grab the rim, and you’re over the backboard. I’m not about to play you.”
It was clearly a clip made for the internet… something that would go viral and spark debate among the community. And it did! Thousands jumped in to mock women’s basketball, twisting it into a men vs. women debate and using it to take shots at A’ja Wilson. But that was never Flau’jae’s intention. The LSU star was clearly frustrated with how Club Shay Shay’s X page framed the video, captioning, “A’ja Wilson is wrong! WNBA players can’t beat NBA players.”
Johnson later made it clear that A’ja was her GOAT, and she would never speak against her. The conversations may continue to swirl, but the LSU guard has decided she is moving on. She is laying controversy to rest and pulling the attention elsewhere:
“Y’all won’t believe what I just did adding something to the resume ,” that’s what Flau’jae posted on X earlier tonight, leaving fans buzzing with excitement. And honestly, who can blame them? She’s already built a solid rap career, signed under Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. So, whether it’s a new venture outside music or a major collab dropping soon, one thing’s for sure– Flau’jae’s got something big up her sleeve!

It’s impossible to predict what the SEC Freshman of the Year is currently teasing about. While a new collab seems likely, it could honestly be anything. Maybe another chart-topper is in the works to join hits like “Can’t Get Enough,” “Guns Down,” and “Came Out a Beast.” Whatever it is, we’ll just have to wait and see!
What we do know, though, is that you won’t find many 21-year-olds as soft-hearted as Flau’jae. Wondering why we say that?
Flau’jae Johnson is giving back to the community, once again
Every year, Johnson hosts the Back2School Giveaway at Enmarket Arena to give back to her hometown of Savannah. As the daughter of the late rapper Camoflauge, she’s made it a personal mission to support her community in any way she can.
Over 2,500 people turned up for the event, walking away with free backpacks, shoes, school supplies, and headphones. A DJ from E93 FM kept the vibes going with music, while food and drinks were available for everyone. Flau’jae didn’t just stop there! She took time to pose for photos, sign autographs for fans, and even performed a live rap set for the excited crowd.
We still don’t know what big move Flau’jae is teasing, but the fans can’t wait to see her light up the WNBA court! The wait might have been pushed back a year, but next season could finally be the moment. With numbers like 18.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game as a junior at LSU last season, she would bring serious star power to the league. Think Flau’jae Johnson would make an instant impact in the W?
