LSU Tigers guard Flau’jae Johnson is one of the most polarizing players in college basketball right now. From the court to the rap game, Flau’jae is dominating them both. After helping the Tigers win their first NCAA championship in 2023, many expected her to jump to the WNBA the moment she was eligible. But even after qualifying for the 2025 WNBA Draft, she decided to return for her senior year, determined to win “her own” championship with LSU.
Flau’jae is also a professional rapper signed to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, and her bold, confident persona from the rap game follows her onto the court. That same outspoken nature often lands her in the middle of debates. Her most recent controversy came straight from Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast.
When Sharpe asked if a WNBA player could beat an NBA player, Flau’jae didn’t hesitate. She said it physically isn’t possible, citing the height and athletic differences. The comment quickly drew heat online, with some fans accusing her of disrespecting A’ja Wilson. But Flau’jae wasted no time clapping back on Twitter, “This is what y’all mad about? My opinion? I never spoke on the goat A’ja, I just gave MY OPINION. Y’all just want a reason to hate me at this point, man I’m so over sm.”

She later clarified that Wilson’s name was part of the original question, and she simply answered honestly. Some people did try to make it about a certain player, but according to Flau’jae, it’s a matter of physical impossibility. She said, ” Like I’m barely touching the rim and you’re over backboard.” After these comments, Shannon asked her if she believed the best player in the WNBA could beat a player barely making the roster in the NBA. To this, she said that it’s all about the metrics and that she didn’t believe that she could beat an NBA player.
While the internet was arguing, Flau’jae was quietly securing a move that could change her off-court game forever.
Could Flau’jae’s Next Big Win Come Off the Court?
Women’s basketball as a whole has reached incredible heights in the last couple of years. Much of that can be attributed to the “Caitlin Clark Effect,” but the truth is, the talent level has never been higher. Just a year after Caitlin Clark had an electric start to the WNBA, Paige Bueckers’ 2025 season is generating a similar buzz. And the college scene? It’s booming too, which sets the stage perfectly for Flau’jae Johnson’s latest career move.
Recently, it was announced that Flau’ jae signed a deal with the Women’s 3X3 league, Unrivaled. She was one of the 14 college athletes who were signed by Unrivaled. What makes this deal even more groundbreaking is that Unrivaled will also give Flau’jae Johnson equity shares in the league. This deal hints at how marketable Flau’jae Johnson is. Even before her name has been called in the draft, she’s getting offers of deals, including equity.
This deal signifies the increase in popularity of women’s basketball around the world. The fan engagement, viewership, attendance, and everything have increased tenfold. All this has led to players getting these lucrative deals even before they enter the WNBA. Flau’jae Johnson is a big example of the coming generation cashing in on this increased popularity, and there’s no telling what kind of deals she’ll be able to sign when she’s in the league.
Flau’jae Johnson is a unique blend: a potential future WNBA star and a rap sensation. She’s already well on her way to becoming a rap sensation; there’s not long to go until we see her dominate the WNBA court as well.
