Floyd Mayweather’s Former Manager Has Bad News for Canelo Alvarez

Every era in boxing has a defining clash that leaves its mark on the sport’s history, and the showdown between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez could very well be that for today’s generation. Despite the chatter about the weight disparity, these are the two of the best pound-for-pound champions in modern boxing, eyeing to settle a years-long debate.

However, the majority of the boxing world has already crowned the Mexican star the victor, pegging him as the “heavy” favorite due to the weight advantage he has over the Nebraskan. However, there are a few personalities that have sided with Bud, favoring him in the bout. As the bout draws closer, J Prince, former manager of Floyd Mayweather and Andre Ward, who currently manages Shakur Stevenson, has now chimed in, predicting a bad night for Canelo

Terence Crawford’s weight won’t slow him down

In a recent interview with Sean Zittel, J Prince predicted, “I believe he(Crawford) beats Canelo. I’m going to put my money where my mouth at.” The American music mogul, drawing from years of watching fighters adapt to heavier divisions, claimed, “Crawford is one of those guys,” he stated, comparing the Nebraskan to legendary Roy Jones Jr.

However, he is in no way discrediting Canelo Alvarez. “Of course, you know, we can’t say anything bad about Canelo cuz he the top of the top two but that’s that’s my opinion,” he stated. However, so far Prince has not seen anything indicating that Crawford won’t be at his best despite the extra weight. “I think Crawford is no wear and tear on him that I’ve witnessed watching him spar and watching him in the ring over the years and he know what he doing,” he concluded confidently.

Despite all the predictions, we will get all the answers only in September when these titans clash. Till then, it is anyone’s best guess. However, another legacy fight against David Benavidez is waiting for Canelo Alvarez, but in a recent revelation, Benavidez’s friend has put the bout in doubt.

Canelo Alvarez’s toughest challenge?

Despite rising in the ranks of the light heavyweight division, David Benavidez’s ultimate target is still Canelo Alvarez. He has often described the matchup as a defining moment for Mexican boxing. Meanwhile, Canelo has often claimed that he gains nothing by fighting Benavidez.

That stance finds an ally in veteran trainer Abel Sanchez, a close friend of the Benavidez family, who echoed the sentiment in a recent Fight Hub TV interview. “Canelo’s earned the right to fight whomever he wants. Uh, I think Canelo’s done enough for himself and for the sport to be able to fight whoever is next in his vision.”

As the interview moved forward, the interviewer asked, “What about a Canelo-Benavidez showdown? Did that fight make sense now?” Sanchez’s response was blunt: “No, I don’t think Benavidez has earned it,” he asserted, declaring that he won’t let his friendship with Jose Benavidez Sr. dilute the reality.

Even though Benavidez has multiple accomplishments, Sanchez and Canelo Alvarez think otherwise. However, if the Mexican Monster can carve his path forward, by toppling giants like Dmitry Bivol or Artur Beterbiev at 175 pounds, his stock could soar, giving him more leverage.

Picture this: Benavidez dominating light heavyweight while Canelo rides high off a win over Crawford. That’s a storyline with some serious sizzle. What do you think about Crawford-Canelo’s bout? Let us know your thoughts down below.
