FOX’s Charissa Thompson Confesses to Major Failure as Erin Andrews Makes New Career Move

You would think Charissa Thompson’s career started with a microphone, but NO. Her dream career started with a toilet paper roll. “Eleven years old, she got the toilet paper roll, got the video camera. She always wanted to be on TV, and that’s what she did. That’s why she left home at 18,” Cathy, Charissa’s mother, said in 2016. She declared her destiny with a makeshift mic because she always knew she was meant to be on-air.  She had the ability to transform her chattiness into a career, making her more than just the class talker.

Even now, with a resume that includes three NFL hosting stints, her own lifestyle business, and an EXTRA correspondent badge, she doesn’t hesitate to acknowledge that she’s still learning the ropes.

Charissa Thompson revealed something that seemed a bit too real on the episode of her podcast, ”Calm Down with Erin & Charissa.’ Sometimes I feel like I’m an uber adult,” she said, listing off her stack of adult credentials, which included a real estate lawyer, insurance, mortgages, and a literal briefcase. But then she admitted: she is apparently not doing a good job at being an adult. “Other times, I look at myself like this with a backwards hat. I’m like, I’m five years old. And I don’t know, I don’t have anything that I’m supposed to have in a house,” she added.

Then she described a recent interaction with her mother, where her humorous self-awareness reached its highest point. She (her mom) goes, Where’s your potato peeler? I go, I don’t have a potato peeler. Like, why would I have a potato peeler?” Her existential crisis over veggie utensils spiralled out of control: When did it happen that we’re in charge of our own lives, and I don’t even have basic kitchen utensils like a potato peeler? I don’t even know what the fuck they’re called. Carrot peeler, potato peeler, whatever.”

The caption for the Instagram post that featured the podcast clip read, Can you be an adult if you don’t have a potato peeler? ” And to be honest, based on the reactions, that touched a chord. But ironically, Charissa Thompson is balancing one of the most illustrious jobs in contemporary sports media while making fun of her lack of basic domestic items. She narrates NFL Films Presents, hosts FOX NFL Kickoff, makes an appearance on Thursday Night Football for Prime Video, and contributes to EXTRA. Oh, and she started House & Home, her own interior design business, in 2020.

She may have begun her career in the HR division of FOX Sports in 2006. But before she became well-known, she worked her way through tape logs, Rockies games, and ESPN sets. Indeed, it’s possible that she lacks a potato peeler. But let’s face it: she is building a media empire without it. So, while she’s wrestling with missing kitchenware, her BFF, Erin Andrews, is busy moving networks.

Erin Andrews leaves the gridiron behind to steal the show on daytime TV

Erin Andrews, a long-time sideline mainstay of FOX Sports, recently made an unexpected turn and went directly into morning programming. The former face of FOX’s NFL broadcasts was recently seen illuminating the set of TODAY’s Jenna & Friends. And NBC’s feel-good hour features a rotating roster of celebrity co-hosts. Andrews made it official on Instagram with a heartfelt statement: “I love it here.” The post featured behind-the-scenes pictures from Rockefeller Centre, with Erin beaming next to Jenna Bush Hager, and Blake Shelton’s ‘Texas’ as the soundtrack.

Andrews has demonstrated her ability to adjust to any stage, from participating in Dancing With the Stars to creating post-game storylines on FOX. She’s bringing the same spirit to Jenna & Friends now, but with less wind chill and more laughs. Erin advertised the gig before her debut: Guuuuuuys!!!! It’s gonna be a time!!!!!” Andrews is a perfect fit for the co-host rotation, which has also featured Andy Cohen, Dwyane Wade, and Keke Palmer. She’s not filling in, she’s owning the hour. “Best first day! Can’t wait to be on all week,” she wrote.

Despite her struggles with existential adulthood and potato peelers, Charissa Thompson has a successful career. And Erin’s presence is more noticeable than ever, even if she is not on the sidelines. These two are demonstrating that you can redefine success at any stage—and look pretty good doing it. Whether they’re podcasting together, controlling prime time, or simply posing the big questions about kitchenware, they are doing it in style.
