Charissa Thompson once imagined a life filled with kids—three boys and a girl, just like the family she grew up in. But life had other plans. After two divorces, she reflected, “I married the wrong people, plural.” The experiences led her to reconsider motherhood. “I can walk away from those marriages, but I can’t walk away from children,” she once said, explaining she didn’t want to attach herself to something she couldn’t detach from.
It wasn’t about regret—it was about recognizing what she could and couldn’t control. Her decision to remain child-free wasn’t made lightly. “My choice to not have children grew from my struggle in marriages,” she shared. The heartache and mistrust she experienced made her cautious about commitments she couldn’t undo. And she’s never been the one to shy away from expressing her thoughts on kids.
But when it comes to keeping kids in check, Charissa’s never been shy about speaking up on how discipline should actually work. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the parents or teachers instilling discipline in kids. On the latest episode of her Calm Down Podcast with Erin Andrews, Charissa shared her thoughts on why it’s okay to tell kids “no.”
“My teacher shares that the one thing parents should make kids know before kindergarten, ‘No’ is not a bad word,” she said. “I heard a parent tell me that they don’t tell their child no because it triggers them. If you cannot tell your child no, your child’s teacher probably can’t tell them no either.” Think about this: you’re a kindergarten teacher, trying to keep 20 tiny humans from eating glue or launching crayons across the room, and one of them throws a fit because you said “no” to their fifth snack break—and guess what? You’re the bad guy.
But that’s not the worst part. Later, you shared that thrilling set of events with that kid’s parents and maybe—just maybe, they doubled down and said that you can’t say no to their kid. Why? Because it triggers them. Not the kind of job a teacher expects, right? That’s what Charissa’s getting in. See it this way: if a kid never heard “no” at home, how are the teachers supposed to manage them without being dubbed as the main-villain.
Well, that’s the messy side of the job. And the Fox’s sportscaster has massive respect for the teachers who’re tackling these kinds of situations. “I have the utmost respect for teachers and any kind of childcare individuals because that is a whole another level of like, it’s not your kid that you’re disciplining. It’s somebody else’s. And then it’s like, how far can you just, oh my God,” she continued.
So all in all, it’s safe to say that even though Charissa Thompson has been open about not wanting kids, she surely knows how to instill discipling in kids. But amidst all this, as she keeps the tough conversations going with Erin, one big question still hangs in the air: is Charissa Thompson sticking with Fox or heading somewhere new?
Charissa Thompson is not fired from FOX
Ever since the Super Bowl LIX wrapped up, the rumor mill is buzzing that Charissa Thompson might not return to FOX, considering her contract was up after the 2024 season. Right after that went down, the sportscaster has been making waves, whether it’s for her contract with Fox or her new career move with Blue Origin for a space mission.
But her return to FOX? Well, it’s still a mystery. But let’s be real—it seems like the sportscaster isn’t going anywhere. After all, she just confirmed that she’s not fired on her Calm Down Podcast with Erin Andrews. “No, I am not leaving Fox. I was never leaving Fox. Don’t know where this took on a life of its own. I wouldn’t normally address this because we all get fake headlines. But no, I’m not leaving Fox, I was never leaving Fox. I’m not fired… I hope I die at [Fox]..” She said.
“As I always talk about, Fox is my longest relationship… So yes, I love Fox, I will hopefully end my career there in a long, long time. But anyways, it’s not ending anytime soon. That’s a fake headline.” See, Thompson has been a part of Fox since she was just 22. So, yeah, we can assume that the network’s not going to let her go. Not so soon.
While the network hasn’t shed light on Charissa’s return, but the way things are shaping up, it looks like a contract extension is at the table for the 42-year-old sportscaster. Until then, we’ll be seeing Charissa Thompson with Erin Andrews on their Calm Down Podcast.
