FOX’s Charissa Thompson Takes Shot At Met Gala as Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson & NFL Stars Take Over

Lights, Camera, and Action. The Mets are here. Or maybe they shouldn’t have come? Well, you can count out Charissa Thompson as a fan. Maybe she believes the Met is the Couture or Cooped Up? This year, Met cameras have captured quite a few NFL athletes stepping out of the tunnel and onto the carpet. Some arrived with their glam-game spouses, others wore flowers on their chest like it was prom night meets pregame warmup. All of them? Trying to turn heads. But not everyone’s buying it. Charissa’s cryptic Instagram stories felt less like a joke and more like a sideline tackle.

The Met Gala returned with its signature spectacle, this time under the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” and a dress code of “Tailored For You.” While fashion elites took their usual place, it was the influx of NFL stars that earned this year the title of the “Sportiest MET Gala.”

But that didn’t impress Fox’s Charissa Thompson. While stars hit the Met Gala, she stayed at Ruby Ranch, posting ranch-life stories that felt like sideline shade.

First story featured a flock of chickens huddled together in a coop—bright yellow, uniform, clucking in sync. Right in the middle? A single duck, looking hilariously out of place. The caption read, “Not the met ball.” It wasn’t just a punchline—it was a posture. Was she suggesting the Met Gala crowd was just a homogenous hen party with one poor soul standing out? Maybe. Maybe not.

Thompson was not done yet. Then came round two. Three happy dogs and a lone cat lounging in front of a red barn, captured like a Hallmark postcard. The caption this time? “Red barn > Red Carpets.” Sweet? Yes. Innocent? Hardly.

Charissa Thompson made her Met Gala stance clear—she’ll leave it to the fashion flock. But other NFL stars showed up, putting their best suit and foot forward.

Jalen Hurts and other NFL stars strut the Met Gala carpet

The NFL has come a long way in the style department. It’s not the early 2000s anymore. This isn’t Jason Sehorn showing up in a prom-esque tuxedo beside Angie Harmon, or Tom Brady’s once-celebrated-but-now-cringe velvet suit. The bar has been raised, the tailoring tightened, and players like Jalen Hurts now put their best foot forward.

Still, not every NFL fit scored points. Bengals’ Joe Burrow made his much-anticipated Met Gala debut. Ditching tradition for a baggy suit and sneakers, the Bengals QB leaned into casual-cool, but fans were quick to call a foul. One user said, “LMFAO this is what a 12-year-old boy wears to his first school dance.” The one-size-too-big blazer did not hit the sweet spot. Instead, it just looked like he missed the memo—or the mirror.

Then came Eagles Jalen Hurts, who reminded everyone what QB1 energy really looks like. He hit the 2025 Met carpet in a sharp black suit, signature cap on point, and wife Bryonna by his side. The newlyweds showed up coordinated in Burberry, designed by Daniel Lee. And Lee himself told Vogue, “As a couple, Jalen and Bryonna embody style and elegance, which speaks directly to us.” It was a fashion touchdown.

Now let’s look at Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. Styled by Lesus McPhearson, Barkley paired a tailored suit with a bowtie, a sleek black H. Moser & Cie. watch, and a subtle sequined arm wrap on his left bicep. It was a look that said refinement. Saquon didn’t need to be loud to be noticed.

Moving on to Justin Jefferson of the Vikings took the theme and ran with it—maybe even hurdled it. He showed up in an oversized grey suit with puffy shoulders and a dramatic flower broach. It was bold, theatrical, and totally on brand. Some viewers even noted a resemblance to the show Sinners. But then again, should he have left the shoulder pads at home after practice?

Another head-turner was Ravens star DeAndre Hopkins, whose look drew mixed reviews but still held its ground in the elegance department. His clean-cut silhouettes and monochromatic tones brought a level of poise and polish that couldn’t be ignored. Some might have questioned the risk, but Hopkins proved that classic can still be commanding. If nothing else, he walked the fine line between fashion-forward and timeless with ease.

Among other notable attendees were Jonathan Owens, Stefon Diggs, and Russell Wilson. Together, this NFL crew brought energy, unpredictability, and a wide range of tailoring choices—some hits, some definite misses. Next year? They might want to rethink their tailors if they hope to end up in the fashion books instead of the blooper reel.
