Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson’s Calm Down Podcast is the definition of candid conversations. Giving gold advice to deal with annoying kids on a flight, dragging their husbands into the show and dropping truth bombs about their careers, they’ve done it all. And they have amassed quite the crowd because of it, too. These two dynamic ladies have been at the forefront of NFL sportscasting for over two decades. From ESPN to Fox Sports, with a lot of other names in between, they have traversed the intricacies of the sports industry with finesse and utmost grace. And with their podcast, they’re making us relate to them on a brand new level.
The Calm Down Podcast started way back in February 2021, as a way for Erin and Charissa to connect with people and show a different side to them. Notably, Erin had said, “this podcast really shows a different side of us. These are our real conversations about what we find to be most interesting and important today.” Charissa added to this too, “Erin and I have so many interests outside of sports, and—prior to this podcast—we hadn’t really had the opportunity to explore those topics in our professional lives – This podcast is an opportunity for us to dive into all of our interests in a genuinely candid and fun way.” And speaking of “real conversations” and candid takes, their latest episode only adds to the brilliance of it all.
In the latest episode, Erin Andrews confessed her frustration with a part of a trillion dollar industry – Amazon’s Alexa. Erin, last Thursday, said, “Every morning, my little guy comes down and he points to Alexa and he says, ‘dehh’ and he wants his musica on. – ever since we went to Disneyland, it’s the Mickey Mouse clubhouse,” Context, Mack, Erin’s son, loves the Mickey Mouse songs ever since he went to his first ever Disneyland trip a few weeks ago. Erin sings a line from the song and says that Mack is also big on Elmo. Additonally, she sings ‘The Elmo slide’ song and shares her pain, “And it’s like, by 20 minutes of breakfast, he’s screaming. – our sweet nanny is asking what we need. Jared’s like, do we have any more Kleenex? I’m like, Alexa, off. Cause it’s just like my sensory issues. It’s like, The Elmo slide, the Elmo slide.”
Sensory overload. We get it Erin. We relate, too. Erin and Charissa shared a clip of this on their Instagram page and in it we can see that while Erin is sharing her painful breakfast routine, Charissa shouts an ultimatum to Amazon. “Alexa, shut the f— up.” The episode’s name is also ‘Alexa, shut the F— up’. Draw your own poetic conclusions; these ladies have had it with Alexa. But what about Amazon? Are they done with that too? Maybe not.
Charissa and Erin’s tryst with Amazon
While Erin and Charissa are totally ready to throw Alexa in the bin, what about Amazon? Their podcast does feature on Amazon Music among other spaces. You can even find a few listings of Erin’s clothing line – WEAR by Erin Andrews – on Amazon.com. As for Charissa, well, she is the host of Amazon Prime’s Thursday Night Football. Charissa has covered the Blue Origin space mission every step of the way after being given the opportunity by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. She even gifted a cool jacket to Lauren Sanchez, Bezos’ wife, who went up to space. So, they like the franchise and its people after all, just not Alexa.
On a slightly serious note, in the same episode of Calm Down Podcast, Charissa Thompson has finally addressed the rumors swirling around her Fox Career. Both Charissa and Erin’s contracts with Fox ended after the last Super Bowl, and fans have been going berserk with speculations of where they will go next, and whether they’ve been fired. Charissa chose the podcast to explain that these are, in fact, nothing but rumors. “I was never leaving Fox. I’m not fired – I love Fox, I will hopefully end my career there in a long, long time. But anyways, it’s not ending anytime soon. That’s a fake headline.” From light hearted moments to serious talk, they really do have it all covered on the podcast.
From addressing real-life problems, to confessing pet peeves (Charissa doesn’t like being the center of attention on birthdays and weddings), Erin and Charissa continue to amaze and entertain with these peeks behind the curtains. We’ll find out more in their next episode for sure.
