Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso Lead Urgent Mets Meeting as Clubhouse Tensions Boil Over

The Mets hit another low on Saturday, dropping their 12th game out of the last 15 in a 9-2 defeat to the Pirates. What started as a promising season is spiraling fast, with each loss piling on more pressure. Quite naturally, the vibe around the clubhouse is tense. But amidst the storm, there’s finally a sign of fight from within.

In a bid to reverse the downward slide, the Mets reportedly held a players-only meeting after the game. It was a session led by clubhouse veterans Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, and Brandon Nimmo. It will be too early to to call it a turning point already, but the initial titbits might just give the fans a glimmer of hope.

We’re definitely not playing consistently. Like, we’re playing. We’re playing good games for staying in games,Pete Alonso said to SNY.

Well, the Mets know they’ve surely got to shake things up. But the good news? They are just half a game behind the Phillies for the top spot in the NL East. So the season’s far from lost. It’s just that they need to regroup. A chat in the clubhouse to bring everyone on the same page can’t be a bad idea. “Keep going. Believe in it,” Soto said in the meeting, per the reports.

For now, what the Mets need is to avoid a clean sweep against the Pirates. The third game will probably be the yardstick to measure the effectiveness of the clubhouse meeting. “We’re all going through the same thing at the same time. Why not talk about it?” Lindor said.

Well yeah, the Mets need to have difficult conversations. Check their pitching or hitting stats, and you will know why. For the unversed, they have got only 5 SBs in their last 10 games!

In the last few weeks, the Mets have been failing to fire across all departments. Be it their pitching or hitting, the clubhouse needs to improve. And their big ticket signing Juan Soto will have to lead from the front.

Juan Soto looks like the only hope for the Mets

Just a few weeks ago, Juan Soto was ridiculed for not offering enough to the Mets in his debut season. Well, he currently has 20 HRs and 47 RBIs, and he is hitting .258! What’s more, he is leading the Mets’ clubhouse in terms of home runs.

Soto was the only missing link for the Mets until a few weeks ago. But now that he has regained his rhythm, the team is not firing collectively. Soto is now one of the few bright spots for the Mets, batting .273 over his last seven games with a strong .818 slugging percentage. And on top of that, he’s reportedly stepping up as a vocal leader in the clubhouse too.

The first game against the Pirates that the Mets lost by 1-9 saw only Soto hit a homer. So, his form has been a silver lining amidst the team’s recent slump. But the Mets are looking to find more consistency as a unit.

They still have time in hand to make a comeback despite giving up the pole position to the Phillies in the NL East. Hopefully, the clubhouse meeting will turn it around.
