Gabrielle Union-Wade choosing Shania Twain’s You’re Still the One for Dwyane Wade showed the Bring it On Star has an elite taste in music. The song came as a tribute for D-Wade from Gab on the occasion of the couple celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary in grand style in front of family and friends last year. And now, the Bring it On Star has yet another song on her mind that could define her summer mood.
The song in question? Dance Tonight by Lucy Pearl. Union-Wade recently shared a snapgrab of an X post that read, “I want my summer to feel like Dance Tonight by Lucy Pearl.” Her response? “Elite vibes. If you know, you know.” And if you do know, then you know exactly why she’s right.
For those who might need a refresher, Lucy Pearl was an R&B supergroup formed in 1999, bringing together some of the biggest names in music. Each of the members of the group brought something unique to the table. Dawn Robinson, her signature sass, Raphael Saadiq with smooth vocals, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad came representing hip-hop royalty. While their time together was short-lived, their impact? Undeniable.
Their debut single, Dance Tonight, had that effortless, feel-good energy that could turn any night into a groove session. If you were around when it dropped in 2000, you probably still remember how it felt to hear that track at the end of a long week. Billboard editor Chuck Taylor described it best, calling it a “smooth uptempo” song. One that “truly makes you want to dance tonight.”
And it wasn’t just critics who loved it. The song climbed to No. 36 on both the US Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. Thus proving its universal appeal. It even snagged a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group in 2001. No wonder Gabrielle Union Wade had to give it its flowers in her IG story.

Yet another reason for Union Wade’s love for Lucy Pearl could be the fact that even her husband has worked with one of the artists from the Supergroup.
