The Nussmeier football bloodline. This family got QB royalty written all over them. You know the dad, Doug Nussmeier—he finished his college at Idaho with 10,824 yards (all-time leading passer). Through four seasons at LSU, Garrett Nussmeier had passed for 5,763 yards and 40 TDs. He’s just 3,352 yards away from becoming the school’s all-time leading passer, something he might accomplish with his decision to return for a fifth season in Baton Rouge. And while he’s fixing his goal on that legacy and the Heisman in 2025, a younger Nussmeier is rising on the radar.
Colton Nussmeier, the younger, lefty QB from Marcus High School in Flower Mound. He’s been on LSU’s radar for a while, even showing up at their Elite Camp. But don’t think he’s locked in yet. He may be a 2027 prospect, but his recruitment is sprinting ahead of his peers. On April 25, Colton dropped a four-photo bomb on X, showing off the stadium, the players, the crowd, and the unmistakable Gators logo. His caption—“All Glory to God!! Thankful to have received an offer from The University of Florida.” Then he doubled down with the post on his Instagram story, flexing his 24th college offer.

Yeah, Florida Gators. LSU’s SEC arch-nemesis. The same Gators who clashed with the Tigers 71 times since 1937. It’s a gritty rivalry, especially after Florida’s 27-16 win last November. Florida leads the all-time series with 34-31-3 with LSU having to vacate 3 wins along the way. So, when Garrett’s little brother, the next potential Tiger, gets the rival’s call, it might sting. But hey, his dad was also the Gators’ OC and quarterbacks coach way back.
Ultimately, it just shows how much the program believes in the kid’s potential. This Florida offer is far from the only SEC offer that Colton Nussmeier got. Several conference powerhouses are in the mix to get hold of this standout talent, who also stars in basketball—Alabama, Ole Miss, Georgia, and more. And non-SEC teams? Plenty. Michigan, Notre Dame, North Carolina, and more. 24 offers and counting. And it’s clear. This kid isn’t just riding on his big brother’s shadow; he’s building his own brand.
Will Colton succeed Garrett Nussmeier later at LSU?
At 6’3, 175-pounds, Colton Nussmeier is a 4-star No. 7 QB of his class. He’s the No. 10 player in the state of Texas and ranks 56th in the nation. Across two seasons, he racked up 2,174 yards and 20 TDs in 15 games. And you see, LSU already offered him last September, and he knows the program better than most HS prospects could. “I think my relationship is pretty good with LSU mainly because of my brother and how many times I have been there to see him,” he revealed. “I think I have a pretty good connection with the staff.” But his future in Baton Rouge has a curious tint.
After Garrett Nussmeier wraps up the 2025 season with a potential Heisman trophy, he’ll move on to the NFL. And LSU’s likely to hand the starting role to Mississippi State transfer Michael Van Buren, who’ll have two or three seasons of eligibility. So, if Colton heads to LSU, he’ll probably have to wait a year behind the starter as a backup. But hey, his big bro waited in the wings behind Jayden Daniels for two years. So, we never know what might happen.
But what if he considers another program like Florida? He’ll be flipping the family script. But it’s way too early to predict anything right now. So we’ll keep a tab on Colton Nussmeier and his development in the upcoming seasons.
