The tales of brotherhood and family aren’t very common in the UFC, but when they do exist, they’re quite endearing to witness in a sport so brutal. From the legendary duo of Nate Diaz & Nick Diaz to the powerful presence of Antônio Rodrigo & Antônio Rogério Nogueira in the heavyweight and light-heavyweight divisions of the UFC. Their unbreakable bonds have been tested through time yet they’ve always stood beside each other.
The case is same for Gilbert ‘Durinho’ Burns and Herbert ‘The Blaze’ Burns. Both compete in the UFC, as we all know Gilbert for the formidable welterweight he is. On the other side, his younger brother Herbert competes in the featherweight division as a rising prospect. Born in Niterói, Brazil, Gilbert and Herbert Burns have journeyed together from their early days in Brazilian jiu-jitsu to the global stage of the UFC. While Gilbert has had more success than Herbert as a UFC fighter, both couldn’t be more proud of each other.
And ahead of Gilbert Burns taking on the welterweight prospect, Michael Morales, the newly married couple Herbert and Jennifer Burns shared posts of their marriage on the Instagram. The celebration highlighted the close-knit bonds of the Burns family, who have supported each other through both personal and professional endeavors.
The couple shared pictures of their celebration as Jennifer and Herbert Burns together wrote: “5.9.2025 was the day our hearts officially became one, marrying the person I cherish and love in the eyes of God. United in love and faith. We received the beautiful Sacrament of Matrimony. It was a day filled with grace, joy, and the promise of a lifetime together, guided by God’s love. We are so blessed! .”
And a proud Gilbert Burns joining a plethora of UFC fans and fighters, commented on the post, “Congrats .”
For a man of family like Gilbert Burns these moments matter the most. His family was a huge source of motivation for him, from his journey of becoming the #1 170-pounder in the UFC to challenge the then champion, Kamaru Usman at UFC 258. Generally speaking, ‘Durinho’ is known for keeping things professional outside the cage, only bring his nasty side when he’s fighting in there. But there’s one rivalry that stands out—one that could result is an epic clash that could make big noise.
Gilbert Burns vs Colby Covington: A war of words, may meet it’s fruition soon
Through all of his ‘Chaos’ and antics, Colby Covington has been a prominent name in the UFC roster. The man who used to be a title challenger, a former interim-welterweight champion himself, now finds himself with 2 wins and losses in his last six fights. In an instance where Burns leaked the phone number of UFC legend Chael Sonnen, Covington went on his classic onslaught against ‘Durinho’, saying, “I will get justice on Gilbert’s f**king face. I will make sure he never shows his face in America ever again because of how badly I beat him.” Yet he never did actually beat him.
As the community only dreams of seeing these two titans clash one day, Burns throughout the years has been vocal for a fight against Covington. After a TKO win over Demian Maia in his own country, Burns called out ‘Chaos’ as he took the mic and said: “Now, I say I’m going to beat you the f*** up, motherf***er. You’re going to eat those words, and you’re going to pay an expensive price for them. I’m coming for you.”
Furthermore, Burns considers Covington to be as fake as they come. Upon their random interaction in a Brazilian concert in Florida, Burns described Covington as a contrasting personality to what he brings in public as to what he showed then in front of ‘Durinho’. The Brazilian BJJ expert revealed: “He was like ‘Oh Gilbert, I’m a huge fan, you’re a warrior, I respect you [for being a] family guy.”
For so long, both these welterweight giants have somehow missed each other’s path even after remaining within reach of each other. As of now, both Burns and Covington are in the worst slumps of their career. Even in a win or a loss against Morales, its safe to say that the stars may have aligned perfectly for a long awaited showdown between Gilber Burns and Colby Covington. We know that Burns wants that fight for sure! Colby on the other hand? No one knows. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
