“It’s Holloway who’s coming through nicely, but he’s starting to fade here. And it’s actually Tinch from lane 2 who comes through. Goodness me. Tinch came late. Tinch gets it…” These words sent shockwaves across the Egret Stadium on April 26. What added to the horror was the sight of Grant Holloway hobbling through in the 10th place in the 110m hurdles race. But can he redeem himself after that loss? The track world, including an American expert, eagerly awaits to know that on June 20…
Yes, June 20, a possibly scarred Olympic champion, Grant Hollway, returns after losing 2 back-to-back finals in April 2025. He first lost to Trey Cunningham at the Tom Jones Invitational on April 19. This was the first race in seven months where he’d slipped below anything but the first prize. Days later, the Xiamen Diamond League handed him another shocker. But his return for the Paris Diamond League 2025 will be in a few hours now, and it is something that people are keeping a close eye on. Because, well, a new rival is returning!
June 19, 2025, Anderson Emerole added a new video on the Final Leg Track & Field podcast, where he gives a preview of the Paris DL. Talking about the men’s 110m hurdles, the American analyst lists out the racers in the “very very very high quality field” that Grant Holloway would be going up against. There’s Trey Cunningham, Dylan Beard, Jamal Britt, Eric Edwards, and more. However, Grant has an advantage. Well, he has had the time to blow off some steam.
Yes, Anderson mentions, “He took a couple months off at this point right we’re in the towards the end of June and he said in the press conference before the meet today that you know he was looking to just take time off to get his mental his physical his emotional like all those aspects right before he does jump on the track.” So yeah, Grant Holloway looks like he has come back after really pulling up his socks.
Given these aspects, Anderson Emerole was ready to bet his money on Grant Holloway because, honestly, in a 110m hurdles where the reigning Olympic champ is running, you can barely favor anyone else, right? Thus, the American analyst said, “He’s run 13.18 seconds which I think he ran down in Florida when finished second place to Trey Cunningham but if I’m going into a 110 meter hurdle race it’s hard for me to pick against anyone except Grant Holloway.” Also, the excitng part about Paris is that there will be a first round and then a final. So athletes will have to “execute first” and then put the jets on.
Timing-wise, everyone’s numbers have fluctuated. Right from Cordell Tinch, who ran 12.87 seconds back in April but came to Grand Slam track and didn’t run as fast, to Trey Cunningham, who has run 13s flat at the Miami Grand Slam Track Meet, but then came to Philly and didn’t run as fast. So while Anderson is excited to see who takes this one, he mentions Grant Holloway, “Look out for Grant Holloway. When he is in the field you can never count him out right? He’s a favorite going into the world championships. Like I trust that him taking time off was very essential to make sure he comes back to be the best that he can be so shout out to Grant Holloway.”
So yes, Emerole is watching things closely. But is Grant Holloway feeling it? Is his gut instinct kicking that he can win it?
Here’s how Grant Holloway is feeling before the Paris Diamond League…
In a pre-meet clip posted right before the Paris DL, Grant Holloway was seen getting candid about what he was feeling in the moment. Of course, it’s Paris, the same soil where he won the men’s 110m hurdles Olympic gold a few months back. Thus, Holloway had a truckload of nostalgia hitting him. The current 60m hurdles world record holder, Grant Holloway, said, “Paris means a lot. I mean just damn- that was last August, you know? I won my first Olympic gold. So Paris is….is…I’m always gonna enjoy coming to Paris just based off the memories.”
But he isn’t taking the race lightly. Grant Holloway said, “The thing about the hurdles is none of us are scared of anybody.” He dropped a hint that he’s going to come in with a fearless mindset. Also, he said, “At every Diamond League, there’s gonna be a fierce battle.” This is just Holloway’s second DL this season, so can he make it count before the USA Championships in July? Let us know if you agree with Anderson Emerole or have a different take!
