Speed and stunts are great on the track, but off-track, they are a menace to society! At least that’s what authorities, sheriffs, and police officers feel. While road laws vary from state to state, things like the ‘Kurt Busch incident’ always raise concerns for the racing community.
If you have been living under a rock, on August 15, 2024, the elder Busch brother was traveling 63 mph in a 45 mph zone in a 2024 Lexus. To make matters worse, an Iredell County Sheriff’s deputy was posted there to conduct speed checks after receiving complaints from locals. And, things turned out as imagination goes: His license was revoked for 30 days, charged with reckless driving and DWI (Driving when intoxicated). Well, a rising star has landed himself in trouble quite recently, but for a far inferior crime than you would imagine!
“We were all drifting”, said Hailie Deegan’s brother, as per a report from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. Haiden Deegan, aged 19, was arrested late on March 21st at the Walton Sports complex parking lot. A mugshot and his arrest records surfaced online in the aftermath of the incident, as the teenager was charged with violating street racing and stunt driving laws. However, just a few hours after being taken into custody, the Motocross racer was released on a $1,000 bond, which many may consider just a slap on the wrist. But, is it ‘that’ vague?
Haiden Deegan launches arrest line merchandise
Haiden Deegan is making quite a name for himself in the Motocross circles. The youngster, who hails from Temecula, California competes in the AMA Supercross and Motocross championship and is with the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing franchise. The son of renowned freestyler Brian Deegan won the 2023 and 2024 SuperMotocross (SMX) 250cc Championships and the 2024 AMA Motocross 250cc Championships, which is presumably how he bought his Audi R8 to begin with. Haiden currently leads the AMA Supercross 250 SX after 6 rounds, 12 points ahead of his Red Bull adversary, Julien Beaumer. But, how did the incident unfold?
It all began at Santa Rosa Beach, Florida when a Walton County Sheriff’s deputy heard the sound of tires at the Walton Sports Complex. He then saw a grey Audi R8 performing donuts in the lane, accompanied by an unnamed passenger. Despite the deputy employing lights and the siren, Haiden Deegan completed another full rotation before his vehicle came to a complete stop. The car was subsequently towed away and put on a 30-day hold, highlighting that the police are taking the matter seriously and not letting it slide.
Despite everything, Hailie Deegan’s brother seems to be taking it all in his stride. On Sunday, the 19-year-old uploaded a montage of his car at a gas station on TikTok, with the tagline, “temporarily unavailable.” He also posted an image of his mugshot on a t-shirt and hoodie on Instagram, which was accompanied by the caption, “Dropping tomorrow 12 pm pst #outthecell.” Doesn’t look like he’s regretting the incident at all, right?
When I thought he got in trouble for street racing, I thought people were p words for hating on him for it. Some disagreed. Now yall owe me an apology bc this is really pussy shit. pic.twitter.com/1sLxrBj4Kf

To make matters worse, the Daily Mail reported that the arresting officer also confiscated fake driver’s licenses, including one that indicated he was 21 years old. However, Public Information Officer Corey Dobridnia told Daily Mail, “It should be noted the Deputy expressed to me that Haiden was respectful during the entire encounter. That is part of the reason he was not charged with having the fake IDs.”
Owning fraudulent identification is a felony in Florida, and the youngster can thank his lucky stars for being let off easily in this instance. All things considered, it’s an experience Haiden Deegan will learn from. While the motocross racer must know that there is a time and place to perform tricks with his vehicle, at the age of 19, he still has some maturing to do. He may be known as ‘Danger Boy’, but Hailie Deegan’s brother needs to not let his impulses get the better of him going forward, and keep his nose clean to avoid more legal trouble.
Hailie Deegan treats herself to a vintage car
It seems like Haiden Deegan isn’t the only one who is buying himself a dream car. His elder sister Hailie Deegan isn’t too far behind, as the Indy NXT racer recently purchased a 1966 Ford Mustang, a vehicle that she has wanted for a very long time. Taking to YouTube, the 23-year-old revealed that she got it at a “steal” price, and couldn’t let go of the opportunity to buy the beautifully restored classic.
In a video uploaded on her YouTube channel, Deegan said, “Not many of you guys know but I bought a 1966 Mustang and it is the most beautiful thing ever. It is restored very nicely. Everyone on my Snapchat has seen it but I haven’t posted it on my Instagram or anything. It’s like a beautiful old green color. It’s in great condition, doesn’t have much miles on it. I got it for a steal. I felt like I was stealing it from the people, with the price that they took. It was great for me. But for them, I felt like, this doesn’t feel right, how much I’m buying this car for.”
Widely considered one of the brightest female prospects in the world of motorsports, Hailie Deegan recently made her first Indy NXT start at St. Petersburg, where she finished 14th. The California native is transitioning to open-wheel racing after an unsuccessful stint in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, where she made 17 appearances for AM Racing before being let go because of unsatisfactory results. Now, the HMD Motorsports driver will hope for better luck in the new discipline, to make her mark in the Indy NXT.
